Music Monday! Moonshadow

It was so dark when the kids went to school this morning. I felt so bad for them having to walk down the long dark driveway, and and wished the moon was still out so they wouldn't have to walk down such a dark path first thing in the morning. The moon had even "called it a night". It was dark.

The moon is near full right now, and the brightness always strikes me when it is getting near full. As the past weeks have been stressful, it is a welcome brightness and always catches me off guard. It snaps me out of the narrow vision stress creates.

I have always loved the moon, its light in the darkness of night. The shadows it makes are intriguing.
And this song always pops in my head.

Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam
wrote this about finding hope in any situation. Be present and joyful. See life as it is, right now, and don't compare it to others' lives, or other times in your life. Every moment in life is rich and unique; whether we are aware of it or not, we are always leaping and hopping on a moonshadow - the inescapable present moment. If we are wrapped up in our whirlpools of worry and concern about what could be, or what has been, we are missing the richness of life as it is.

He recently played this song in Melbourne, and it sounds just as good as it did in the 70's.  When he appeared on The Chris Isaak Hour in 2009, Stevens said of this song:

"I was on a holiday in Spain. I was a kid from the West End (of London) - bright lights, ect. - I never got to see the moon on its own in the dark, there were always streetlamps. So there I was on the edge of the water on a beautiful night with the moon glowing, and suddenly I looked down and saw my shadow. I thought that was so cool, I'd never seen it before."

It is cool. So I have added the Moon Phases to my blog. So we can all follow the best times to see our own Moon Shadows.

Tomorrow is a full moon. We should have great shadows!

The moon was up and bright this morning when I was walking Chester. I love to watch her go through her phases.

  3. I too love the moon. I could really relate to the character in Dean Koontz's book "Strangers" who was obsessed with the moon & didn't know why (he found out in the end, of course).
