Recycle Tutorial – Making Of T-Shirt Yarn | craftpassion.com

Image
I know most people Spring Clean. I have been Summer Cleaning.  I have been cleaning out my drawers in preparation for a move and I found I had so many shirts I never wore, didn't like, were worn out, etc.  And then I got to my husbands tee-shirt drawer. Talk about shirts that were never worn, others that were worn too much.  So many!  What to do with all these shirts? I usually donate, but the thought of taking more bags across town seemed too much at this time.  I thought of making a quilt, but some were just too beat up.  Since my creative juices have been flowing also, I wanted to find a new use for these old things. I remembered stumbling across this tutorial that shows how to make T-Shirt Yarn, and thought this was the prefect solution.  I had to share the brilliance of this. You can take all your old tee shirts and make them into something new.  Click here for the full instructions: Recycle Tutorial – Making Of T-Shirt Yarn | craftpassion.com You can make drawstring bags (

Christmas in July at IndieSmiles.com and SALE!

Image
I am officially a published columnist at IndieSmiles.com .  My first article was posted this evening. Christmas in July sales abound on Artfire , Zibbet , and Etsy . I had been enjoying the summer, struggling with accepting the idea of Christmas in July. So I researched it, surfed the sales, wrote about it, and IndieSmiles.com published it. Thank you to Barbra aka All About The Buttons , my editor and wonderful mentor, for helping me get this live on the site. Inspired by all the other sellers out there, I decided to run my own X-mas in July Sale at my Zibbet store , and my Etsy store . I have a special section for the X-mas sale items, so just click on the section X-mas in July. Of course, a huge thank you also goes to all the wonderful sellers who gave me permission to use their photos in my article and for their excellent items they are offering for sale: Southern Ladies Vintage Resetar Glass Art Studio Catfluff AndrewsReclaimed Feltplanet itsmythingdesigns Merry July!

I am a new Columnist for IndieSmiles.com!

I am excited to say I have been accepted as a new columnist for a wonderful website supporting handmade, IndieSmiles.com . It is a community of Handmade creators and business folk that provides a place for news about handmade and vintage. There are articles on marketing, business tips, Indie shop reviews and interviews, and a variety of other subjects. It is not a site devoted to one online selling venue, but any Indie shop. They feature creators and tpoics from Etsy, Folksy, Artfire, and Zibbet, as well as those not associated with any one particular venue. IndieSmiles also likes to feature how handmade (Indie) teams are making a difference with their charity and community work. (This must be part of the reason the Smiles came about.) That is one thing noticable about the Handmade Community on any of these venues: They are full of supportive, caring, helpful, and genuine people who strive to bring smiles to all they encounter. I am happy to be a part of this great team, and can&

Music Monday - Rain and Umbrellas

The forecast is calling for rain, and it is much needed here. Dont' get me wrong, I love the sunshine and have been enjoying it fully, but it is refreshing to have a good cloudy day and rain. This song, by Rihanna featuring a quick rap by JayZ, but the lyrics are good, and and once you hear it, it has a way of stickin in your head.  If you can get past Jay-Z :) The dancing is pretty good in the video too. So to all my followers and friends, in this difficult world of handmade business stresses and regular life stresses, a little rain is needed. And you can always stand under my umbrella while we enjoy it until the sun shines again. When the sun shine, we'll shine together Told you I'll be here forever Said I'll always be your friend Took an oath imma stick out 'till the end Now that it's raining more than ever Know that we'll still have each other You can stand under my Umbrella You can stand under my Umbrella So here's to a good rain, and to co

Summer Sun - a poem and a Saturday Blog Sale

Image
Summer Sun by Robert Louis Stevenson Great is the sun, and wide he goes Through empty heaven with repose; And in the blue and glowing days More thick than rain he showers his rays. Though closer still the blinds we pull To keep the shady parlour cool, Yet he will find a chink or two To slip his golden fingers through. The dusty attic spider-clad He, through the keyhole, maketh glad; And through the broken edge of tiles Into the laddered hay-loft smiles. Meantime his golden face around He bares to all the garden ground, And sheds a warm and glittering look Among the ivy's inmost nook. Above the hills, along the blue, Round the bright air with footing true, To please the child, to paint the rose, The gardener of the World, he goes. A fitting Poem for mid-summer. There is no better feeling that the warm summer sun peaking through the window, the trees, across the yard. And summer is the perfect time to take a minute to enjoy these things. I try to do something enjoyably summ

Celebrating the Road Trip - Carhenge.

Image
We are just returning from a road trip, and after finally recovering from the days on the road (exhausting!), I stumbled across a fitting tribute to all Road Trippers - CarHenge ! Although after 2 days of 12 hours on the road, I didn't want to see any more cars, I saw this tribute to Stonehenge , in  Alliance, Nebraska , USA, fittingly made from US cars, and loved it!  Carhenge was conceived in 1987 by Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father. While living in England, he studied the structure of Stonehenge, which helped him to copy the structure's shape, proportions, and size. Here is Carhenge compared with Stonehenge.   Other automobile sculptures were subsequently added to the location of Carhenge, which is now known as the Car Art Reserve. The Spawning Salmon - created by Geoff Sandhurst of Canada and The Fourd Seasons - representing the 4 stages of wheat grown in the area.
