Walking on Wednesdays - Walking Up To A Snake

Image
the Old Indian Once upon a time ,  a woman was picking up firewood.  She came upon a poisonous snake   frozen in the snow.  She took the snake home  and nursed it back to health.  One day the snake bit her on the cheek.  As she lay dying ,  she asked the snake,  "Why have you done this to me?"   And the snake answered,  "Look, bitch,  you knew I was a  snake." ~ Old Indian  from Natural Born Killers One thing we were afraid of when we moved here  to North Carolina was the snakes. There are poisonous snakes here, like  Copperheads ! Copperhead photo courtesy of  The Biology Department at Davidson And lo and behold, within the first few weeks we were here, this big old black snake slithered on the patio. We remembered that quote from Natural Born Killers ... Not knowing what is was,  hubby 'took care of it'   with a shovel .  Black Rat Snake photo courtesy of The Biology Department at Davidson Afterwards, we looked it up and found,  it

Music Monday! Easter Monday...so... Sex and Candy....

Image
T his day after Easter .... we all have CANDY on our minds,  if not the other .... Marcy Playground - Music - More Music Videos This was Marcy Playground 's one hit,  although the album this song was on is pretty good.  As Wikipedia says:   Marcy Playground   is quiet and minimalist in tone. Wozniak's songs run in many different styles: some are modern  folk music ; many have undertones reminiscent of children's songs; the blurred sound of  psychedelia  makes appearances ; and then there are the songs with a clear  rock  sound. So on Easter Monday this year,  where it is an official holiday in many countries ,  maybe the CANDY from yesterday  will have a partner -  Sex and Candy .

Walking on Wednesdays - Walking Down Memory Lane

Image
Let's Take a Walk Down Memory Lane the art show we went to This past week has been full of memories for me.  Starting with our family going to an art show opening last Friday.  It had been years since we have attended a function like this. I hate to say how many years. It was a big deal for us, especially since in our former lives, we put on art shows like this on a regular basis when we owned an art gallery. So I had to dig out my dress clothes . They were still in a suitcase since our move last August.  In there, I found all my skirts and clothes I used to wear when I had to look nice on a regular basis.  My Toekini's - Blue Rose on Black These days, jeans and a tee shirt are the wardrobe of choice, so seeing all these dress clothes was like being in a time warp . I found a skirt I barely fit into, made a set of Toekini's to go with the outfit, and dressed up for the first time in many years.  I found a dress I had worn to my first prom in that suitcase too

Music Monday! What it's Like

Great song suggested by hubby. Everlast and What It's Like He thought in light of all the tornado's  and terrible weather here in NC  we should take a minute, or 4  (this song is just over 4 minutes)  and think about those who were affected. We were lucky , this time.  Our basement had a little water seeping in and some of our collectibles got soaked, and some ruined .  We have been less lucky in the past,  with our experience of a Cat.5 hurricane .  So every time bad weather rears its ugly head,  we take a moment and think about  how thankful we are that we only lost  our house and some material items.  We all got through safe and sound ,  and besides the photos and  some other memorabilia  we could not replace,  we only lost 'stuff' .  Not our loved ones. Others have not been so lucky. This song, as Everlast says "It’s about empathy. It’s saying, don’t judge… because you’ve got as much dirt under your fingernails." And God forbid you ever h

Walking on Wednesdays - Mall Walking

Image
My uncle introduced me to mall walking years ago. His form of mall walking was different than I ever thought of, being the typical 80's teen. Go to the mall to just....walk??? He needed a place where he could get his required exercise after a heart attack that was sheltered from those harsh Buffalo winters.   Mall Walking - photo from Flickr.com The mall was the perfect place, lots of space to walk in climate controlled environment. It was an added bonus that my uncle has very good taste in clothes and other items, and also he loved the thrill of a good deal . So he would walk daily, seeing the same stores day after day, and noticed when items went on sale .  Leather Jackets - photo from Flickr.com He then watched those items, and waited util they were discounted even more . When they were at their lowest, he walked right in and got some great items for a steal. Leather jackets , Farberware pan sets, you name it, if he got a great deal, he bought it.   Our trip to the m

Walking on Wednesdays - Clearing my head and starting fresh

Image
With the first of the Walking on Wednesday series  came a revelation.  Walking can clear the mind,  and allow for a fresh start. It started out as a day with potential -  so much on the to-do list.  Listing new flowered Toekini's , making new ones,  finishing my inventory count  (so much inventory ~ I have so much to create!!) .  Yellow Rose Toekini's ~ sold within 1 hour of listing! Then, entering  shipping receipts from January until now,  entering sales into a new spreadsheet.  I am now an editor for zibbeter.com,  need to write an article for IndieSmiles.com,  on and on. This was starting to stress me .  Then I got notice the Toekini's I listed just sold! Now to package, print shipping label, go to Post Office. My list grew and grew .  Quickly, it became clear  that I was becoming overwhelmed.  And, for me,  too much to do means nothing gets done .  So I abandoned everything,  got my loyal in house walking companion  and set off to just walk .   Walking Compani
