When Life Takes Over...

When life takes over, one may not get to post every single day for NaBloPoMo.

Not in my world.

With the heat issues the other day, then a day playing catch-up with tasks that didn't get done due to the possibility of instant frostbite the days before, and then a day of driving, how could I get any writing done, much less sit in front of the computer to post?

The pressure of this challenge, however, is not the kind of pressure that makes me anxious. It is not the kind of pressure filled with dread, panic, or stress. This kind of pressure is pushing me in a gentle way. It is an urge to write, a task I WANT to do, not one I am forced to nor one I dread.

Strangely, I noticed as I tended to my tasks, my mind was planning my posts. Actually, thinking of what I would write, even forming sentences and arranging paragraphs! This is a sensation that came to me in a previous NaBloPoMo attempt, and I am so glad it continues to be part of my days.

In fact, while I was driving home from dropping our son at college (a 5 1/2 hour drive ONE way, I was taking the return trip shift), I was writing in my head. It was very dark out, my back was hurting and my butt was falling asleep. We had been driving for 9 hours at this point, and I wanted to be doing anything but driving. So I found myself writing in my head. Going over possible posts, subject I could write about, life lessons I wanted to share.

This is what kept me awake and alert. This, and a ridiculous radio station in we found whose tag line is "We play anything", and yes, they do.

For instance, "I Am The Warrior" (an 80's pop rock hit) then "Sweet Child O' Mine" (classic {awesome} hard rock), then "Bust a Move" (hip-hop rap dance hit of the early 90's) right before "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (English progressive rock). Yes, a decidedly 80's theme, but CRAZY nonetheless! Their mixed up playlist had me thoroughly amused, and awake.

Anyway, I did realize that when life takes over, blogging is difficult, but I am still writing, even if it is just in my head. This is what taking on the NaBloPoMo challenges has done for me. And it is a pressure I don't mind at all.

What has taking on the NaBloPoMo challenge done for you, or what has blogging added to your life?

  1. These writing exercises can be really helpful when it comes to instilling the "dailyness" of writing. But you're right -- it can be hard when life takes over!

    1. Just don't forget your goals, right?
It feels good to get back on track though.
