Thankful for...The Beautiful Random Music of Windchimes

Image
Beautiful random music brought on by the wonderful nature of wind. I love windchimes. We love windchimes, hubby, kids and me. They are beat up, sure, but looks hardly matter when they fill the air with such beautiful sounds. Our old place, 2 places ago, we hung our windchimes up and enjoyed the beautiful music. For about a week. Then, our upstairs neighbor complained to the managment company about them and we were asked in no uncertain terms to take them down. What kind of crap was that? Seriously. I won't linger there on those negative thoughts and feeling. I don't want to harbour those things. I am so thankful that we have a better place to live now. One that has no such restrictions. I am so thankful that we have a windchime up now. And this weekend's project? Re-stringing a winchime. And emptying out the warehouse where 2 more project windchimes are. Nothing like the porchfull of winchimes we had more than 10 years ago, but a decent collection st...

Music Monday! You Get What You Give

Image
It's been a while. I keep wanting to get a Music Monday done. I keep picking songs, even have a Two for Tuesday picked. But when it came to writing, I was at a loss. Nothing to give. Yes, I have written about having nothing to write about. A f ew times , and then some more . It is every writers problem, at one time or another. So I will save those songs when I feel the reason I picked them in the first place. But this song I heard, and I just felt like writing. I was avoiding the Debate last Wednesday, actually. Hubby wanted to 'witness history' or something like that. Me? Nope. I honestly have such a strong dislike for Trump, that listening to him at all gets me in such an annoyed and angry state it takes me a long time to recover from. I haven't uttered much about the election or the candidates for this reason. It is best for me to just put headphones on and listen to some good music and stay in my happy place. Anyway, to drown out the blathering on TV, I put ...

Music Monday! Who Can It Be Now?

Image
I was in the kitchen the other day, cooking something I can't remember, when I noticed this little guy spying on me. Who can it be, knocking at my window? Like he was trying to figure out a way to get in, he stayed there for quite a while. As often happens, 80's songs pop in my head in certain situations, and this was no exception . Now, I like lizards. It wasn't that I didn't want him to come in really, it was just that he was there, peeking in at me rather suspiciously. Almost creepy..... I feed the lizards out back, but the ones out front are not as friendly. They run off quckly and do not let us get very close. But I do enjoy seeing them just the same. However, I can't say we say the same thing about human visitors. In fact, hubby hates having visitors. Several times last week he uttered;  "I just want to be left the *&$% alone!"   (edited to not expose you to his use of colorful language that he uses quite regularly). He does no...

Walking on Wednesday ~ You Might Be Getting Old If.......

Image
I am a fan of Jeff Foxworthy's Redneck Jokes . They have seeped in to our culture, and we find ourselves referencing them when the slightest opportunity arises. I even uttered the phrase yesterday, on our road trip to pick up our son from college, when the conversation ended up discussing hubby's dream truck after passing a beefed up pickup truck. He spoke with that dreamy longing. "I wanna get the biggest diesel truck, raise it up on the biggest tires, get those KC lights and a bar to put them on...."  Hello.... KC headlights , totally cheesy 80's hun. Wait a minute. 80's. That is over 30 years ago. ugh. This screams redneck to me. I married a redneck wannabe. I should have realized this when I kept buying him flannel shirts, but I rationalized the grunge fashion sense was really what was going on here . But alas, the phrase that kept running through my head was, You might be a redneck if.....you want a pickup truck with KC headlights on it and dream ...

Music Monday! I Ran (So Far Away)

Image
I am searching for a good playlist for my runs, which now I can call them because I run for the entire distance, well minus the warm up and warm down. I also measured the distance, and found I do run 2 miles on this path that I have been taking for the last several months, walking and running.  I need a playlist good for 3 miles now though, as I am joining the Arthritis Foundation this year for their 2012 Jingle Bell Run - my first public race. (And now I am only $35 away from my humble goal for the cause) It is a 5k, 3.1 miles. One more mile than my regular workouts. Hubby started the search, and somehow we got lost in the 1980's. (something that happens with regularity it seems....) With great songs like Dexy's Midnight Runners (get it? runners... heehee) , and The Proclaimers and 500 Miles . With a good beat, and a running theme, I think we were on to something. But when he played this song , I knew it had to be on the list AND today's Music Monday! It...

Music Monday! My Name Is Mud

A Name. W hat's in a name?    Sometimes a whole lot, sometimes absolutely nothing.  Looking for some inspiration from my 2 kids while taking them to school yesterday (missed bus), the car ahead of me had a license plate with BCK in it. This reminded me of my name - Beck. Most of you know me as Rebecca, but really this is a more recent preference of mine. I spent my whole life being Becky or Beck. (Sometime  Bekkage, Beckarooni, Roo, and even  Beth-a misunderstanding of Beck ). Not Rebecca. But here - and now - I am Rebecca.    The radio kept me thinking about names by playing 2 different songs with women's names on the ride - Allison , and MaryAnn (well, the song is Tree By the River ). And then there is the famous Peggy Sue or Delilah . There is a song Beth, and even one for my sis, Sandra Dee (except she is Sandra J, close enough), and my other sister Suzie Q , (tho she is simply Susie).    Names. Shakespeare really got it right: A...

Music Monday! Kumm A Klele - Wish I was there in Paradise.

Image
I was in paradise back in 1993 when this song came out, newly married and in The Caribbean living with my new hubby. I didn't really know this song until my oldest son played it from his Ipod, just a few months ago. I asked right away about it and he couldn't remember the name of it, who sang it, etc. It was left there, until I asked him to make me a CD of some of the songs from his Ipod that I liked, and he put this on it. (I almost typed make me a tape...oh boy hard to get out of the 80's sometimes) I have found this song so calming and soothing, that I listen to it when I start to feel overwhelmed, stresses, or just need a pick me up. Today, and probably many times over the next few weeks, I will need this song as I prepare for The Big Love Fest . I need lots of stock, and been working and working to try to make stuff. Then, I gotta price and package everything. Then I gotta decide how to display everything. Kumm A Klele AND the weather just stinks today. ...

Music Monday! The Rest is Still Unwritten

Image
Day 3 of NaBloWriMo . Thank goodness it's Music Monday , because already my mind feels like it's empty of something interesting to say. I know that writers block is a common in the writing world, and other creative worlds also experience blocks of all kinds.  My fellow blog writers, I know you too have gone through days like this, where you sit and stare at the blank page before you. Maybe this will help you  open up those dirty windows, let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find. The rest is still unwritten. Drench yourself in words unspoken live you life with your arms wide open  today is where your book begins the rest is still unwritten. There are 28 more days for us NaBloWriMo crazies. 28 more days to release our inhibitions, and feel the rain on our skin.     Enjoy it! And who says that when October ends, we will stop writing everyday? The ending is unplanned.

Music Monday! Good Life

Image
I try to be the optimist. Stay positive. I guess I try to be the Yin more than the Yang . The one with the bright outlook. But sometimes it is difficult to stay positive. Especially in these difficult times we are going through lately, I am sure you know what I mean. You work so hard, only to get lackluster results. (i.e. lots of promotion, few sales).  You interview for jobs, and they hire someone else. You GET a part time job, and they only schedule you for one day a week for the second week in a row. Times are tough, and sometimes it is very tough to remain positive. But then along comes a song , and you like the music, you listen to the lyrics, and suddenly you feel better . You find that Yin as the Yang fades in the background. You feel good inside . This song does that for me. Even though I have lived more than half (I assume) of it, this song makes me believe, yes, this is gonna be a good life . You are never too old to say: Oh, this has gotta be the good life This h...

Music Monday! The Evolution of Dance

Image
Yeah, Mondays generally suck.  It is hard to find that "get up and go", isn't it? Well, this aught to help. Makes you want to move, doesn't it? I found myself moving my head, grooving along,  in between the giggles. Have a GROOVY Monday!

Music Monday! Working for the Weekend

Image
We all do it, in one way or another, work all weekend, though perhaps not in the way that this song details. But still a fitting and groovy song for today, where we are celebrating Labor Day . The first big Labor Day Celebration was 99 years before today's Music Monday! feature. It was to celebrate organized labor, and has come to encompass, more generally, working people in the US. If you have your own business, you know that working for the weekend, including Labor Day, is the norm. Loverboy , an iconic 80's band, came on the scene in 1980, releasing this arena rock song Working for the Weekend in 1981. I was just 10 years old, the concept of working, much less working for the weekend, was foreign to me. But growing up in the 80's, this song was a large part of the music that shaped the decade. So, get your red leather pants out, sport your red headband, and rock on, while you are undoubtedly checking your email, listing items, networking, creating......WORKING. G...

Music Monday! Money

Image
Requested due to the lovely day in the Stock Market today . If anyone has any left after today............................................................. Pink Floyd  wrote this about the bad things money can buy, but it is often misinterpreted as a tribute to money.  Ironically, this song is the only one on the album to enter the top 20 on the  Billboard  Top 100, and the album sold over 34 million copies. Bet they didn't have to worry about the disastrous market today.....unless they decided to invest their fortune from this song into the Stock Market . The optimist in me says 'what goes down must come up', a little different than Spinning Wheel , they had the flip side chorus to that.  I sorta feel that perhaps the only way to go now is up.  Let's hope so.

Music Monday! Tubthumping - huh?

Image
Started out as a good day, turned to a really bad day then turned out okay .... so this seems like a great song for today. But what the heck is tubthumping ? Apparently, it is campaigning. To most, this is just a drinking song.  It's repetitiveness is infamous,  ranking it #12 on Rolling Stone 's Most Annoying Songs. Oh well,  great for bringing us up when we feel knocked down! A drink would go very well with with this song. HAPPY HOUR!

Music Monday! Stir It Up

A little raggae for this Monday.

Music Monday! Blind Melon - No Rain - and Bees

Image
It rained nearly all weekend here in the mountains, which is what we needed. But I am glad the sun is out today. It has inspired me to finally add a new section to Raige Creations - Vintage Raige! My first listing is this wonderful Bee Smoker made by the A.I. Root Company in about 1907. I love the history of items like this like this historic footage from the A.I. Root Company , and am glad to be able to share with my friends, cutomers, and fans a new side of Raige. There is much more to list, from my slight addiction to auctions and yard sales, that will make Vintage Raige on Etsy and Vintage Raige on Zibbet  THE place where Vintage is all the Raige.  Keep checking to find unusual, interesting, and fun items.

Music Monday! Learning to Fly

We watched young Wrens learning to fly this morning.  There were 3 babies clinging to the pine needles hanging below their nest. One by one, they took that leap of faith, and quickly fell to the ground.  Once provoked (walked over to try to get a pic for this post) they successfully and repeatedly took flight again and again, and probably learned faster than most Wrens learning to fly.  There's no sensation to compare with this Suspended animation, a state of bliss Can't keep my mind from the circling skies Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I.

Music Monday stretched Till Tuesday

By the way, what's with the HAIR, is that part of the new image?   I try so hard not to get upset... This little hobby of mine  HAS gone too far.... See there was good music in 1985, and gotta love the rat tail.  And for those who were still in diapers in 1985, you heard something "new" today! :P

Music Monday! "Little Black Backpack..." I mean Basket!

Image
Since I have been singing this all weekend while creating my little Black and White Basket , I thought I would share it for today's Music Monday - Stroke 9's "Little Black Backpack".  Remember when this was on the radio all the time in the 90's?   It sure gets stuck in your head, and try to say this 5 times fast:  Just don't expect to get your bloody black backpack back link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0yYCqkt0VE&feature=PlayList&p=F328EBAA3DA0EC1B&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=31

Monday Monday's got me Califonia Dreaming

Image
Every other day [every other day] of the week is fine, yeah, but whenever Monday comes [but whenever Monday comes] you can find me crying, all of the time.....and has got me California Dreaming , all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey..... These songs popped in my head first thing when seeing my youngest son's face this morning.  It's grey and raining, and news of snow in the south had us off to a sad start this Monday morning. Then, over coffee, my husband and I were 'going retro' in our heads, and remembering these songs on the AM Radio when we were young.... which inevitably gave way to later memories including this one: (don't' worry about the warning - just re-click on the object and it will open) If you can relate to any, or all, of the references in this video, then this should brighten your Monday. :D
