Walking on Wednesday - Scary Movie Walk and FUN FOG

Crow on a Branch in the Fog
Yesterday, it was foggy. A real thick, dark, grey, scary movie kind of fog.  Something about it, and the schedule I wanted to keep, made me want to put on my new walking shoes and get out there in the fog.

I know I talked about fog before, a few times. Each time I talk about it, I realize I am in a different frame of mind. Either in a fog myself, or happy to greet the fog, sometimes it's spectacular fog or the challenges becoming clear in the fog

Foggy Hill
Yesterday, I had a completely different reaction to the fog.

A scary movie walk kind of fog which in my mind was set to be FUN FOG.

I realized how important attitude can be. On most other days, I would look out at the fog, ponder its wonderful wet beauty, and say to myself - 'No walk right now'. Yesterday, all I could think was - 'Hey, that would be a cool walk!'

With the 'scary movie walk' theme, I noticed all kinds of things that I most likely wouldn't have noticed any other day. Partly, because in the sunshine, things look completely different. Partly because I don't normally have such an open mind on my walk.

Chatty Bird

It was a fun and wonderful way to walk.

I noticed there was lots of animal activity. The birds were chirping, one even stopped a minute to say hello. The squirrels were running around crazy as usual.

The worms were out, that was one thing for sure. Which is probably why the birds were out in such force. This poor guy, next to Lady J, seemed to have a squished rear end, but that wasn't stopping him form squirming to the side of the road.

But the people, they were quiet. There weren't many people out and about. Maybe it was because it was early, just 8 a.m. But it still seems strange that the animals were so active, and the people were not.

Scary movie material for sure. It seemed fitting that the cemetery looked so creepily perfect, that big ominous tree firmly in the center, daring us to enter and go down that path.

I started to feel like I was in college again, on my first assignment for photo class where we were challenged to look at our everyday surroundings in a new way. I was exploring the path I walk every day, but with a completely different perspective and mind set. I was seeing things in a new way, and wanting to capture it.

Cemetery Fence in the Fog.
Suddenly the walk changed from the 'scary movie walk' to the 'find beauty in the every day' walk.

The fence isn't just a fence when you look at it from a different angle. When you notice the drops of water on each rail, when you turn just slightly and look ahead, you see a road that you haven't seen before, even though you walk it every day.

The flowers aren't just flowers in the fog. Their color is much more vibrant against the grey misty fog. They are just as beautiful, but seem like they have to try harder.

I know that sometimes it is tough to get out there and set out into the fog with a positive attitude. Sometime just getting out the door makes all the different. Once you step out into that new world of fog, you have the power to see it in a way you never have before.

Driveway in the Fog
I finally arrived back at my driveway, the same winding, tree lined driveway you have seen in other posts. But even that familiar is different. Refreshingly different.

My 'scary walk' really wasn't scary, but refreshingly beautiful. Then, by afternoon, the sun came out and we reached 73 degrees. We opened the windows and let the fresh air in. The beauty lasted the whole day. Not bad for a Tuesday.

  3. I always find foggy "off" days far more interesting than sunny ones; for exactly that, the contrasts, the depths of bright colors you otherwise don't notice. Your photos are beautiful. That one of the fence perspective is particularly striking, a piece of art!

  4. Thank you all.
The Fence pic was my favorite too.
It was an invigorating walk, one that can't happen often enough.
I truly enjoyed taking the photos probably because things look so different in the fog, and it is challenging to take pictures in the fog.
I am motivated to pursue more photos now though. thank you.
