The Chicken Gang

As has been the common popular birthday present for me, this year again I got new running shoes. Yes, I have gone on about new running shoes before.... here .....and here ....to share just a couple.... I am doing more walking instead of running these days, as my legs keep hurting when I tried to run lately, probably from my worn out shoes. So, that is the reason this year I was absolutely thrilled with these new shoes. They hug my heels so nicely and offer some great support for my overpronation and thus will help my sketchy knees and achy legs. My awesome new shoes My double excitement that we could find these shoes on island, where I could try them on and see that they fit nicely. I won't mention the price I had to pay for this convenience, as it was my birthday and I reasoned it was okay to overpay for such wonderful convenience and totally enjoy the instant gratification of getting these shoes. No more waiting for a 'mule' to bring them down to me after ordering...

Walking on Wednesday ~ What Running Has Taught Me ~ Shoes

Image
I know there are a gazillion websites and blogs that talk about the greatness of running. I read them too. But since I have started running again, after my 3 month break, I have learned some valuable life lessons . Each lesson is great for running, but can be translated into every-day life as well. I will be sharing these life lessons with you while training for the Jingle Bell Run , which I am participating in on December 7th. ( Donate HERE ). Today, I must stress the importance of good running shoes. The Shoes. I know, I know, everyone talks about the shoes. And here I am  again  stressing  their importance. But let me explain. When I started back running, 2 1/2 months ago, my running shoes were already old . I justified keeping them because I had taken a 3 month break, and thought I could get some more pounding out of them.  I am not sure when it started, but I really noticed my legs hurt. They hurt when I ran, after I ran, and most of the rest of the ...

Walking on Wednesday ~ All I Wanted for Christmas

Image
I think I am officially in the 'Runner' camp now. I totally relate to this card here. In fact, that is all I asked for for Christmas. All I asked for was related to running. I asked for new running shoes, I asked for new running clothes, I asked for fun socks to run in (specified that the clothes should show off said socks as well), and I even asked for my son (the music encyclopedia) to make me a running playlist.  I could not think of anything else I really wanted. I tried to think of other things, but these are all I could honestly say I really wanted. (Ironically, I repeatedly requested these things over the week before Christmas, the week I ran only 2 days.) Christmas came, and I got all these things, feeling guilty that I didn't even run Christmas day.  But I ran today. My new clothes, my new music, saving my new shoes for a drier day (I have a thing about soaking new shoes when I first get them) , and ran farther than my normal 2 miles. My goal now to reach 3...

Walking on Wednesday ~ now Running on Thursday?

Image
I am starting to think I should rename Walking on Wednesday - I have not been very good at actually posting on Wednesdays. Plus, I am running now for most of the route. So maybe Running on Thursday?  I measured my route last week, before the Jingle Bell run (my first public run!) and found the distance was 2 miles. So this is now my standard workout, and I am concentrating on keeping it as much 'run' as I can. Yesterday (Thursday), I noticed that the run didn't hurt as much as it had the previous 3 days. The 5K run did have it moments of pain, so I treated myself with a day off Sunday. Then on Monday I went for my normal run, or so I thought, but when I actually ran it was not smooth, it was HARD! I ended up walking most of the time. Tuesday, a little better, but still much walking. Wednesday, I ran almost the whole time, but it was not easy. At my turnaround spot in the middle of the run, I gladly walked a wee bit until I could catch my breath. Then I took up to ...

Music Monday! I Got My New Shoes On

Image
Now you are probably thinking... Is she STILL going on about her new walking shoes ?  Oh brother! And yes, I still am!  But unless you went from these: Notice the heel tread completely worn off on one shoe,  the missing label in the center, and the yellow worn off the front section.   To these: Brand spankin' new, GEL, pink and black, dressy blingy going out to party, (as hubby called them when he saw them) awesome walking shoes!   Unless you made a transition like this, well you just can't understand.  Every day since I got these walking shoes, this song has been in my head when I slip into these and go for my walk. I am humming it while I am walking on cushions, there is a hop to my step, and suddenly everything is right ! So today I am featuring this song to celebrate, and partly to get it the heck out of my head.  Because frankly I am a little sick of it.  I found if a song is stuck in my head, and I feature it here on Mus...

Walking on Wednesday - Scary Movie Walk and FUN FOG

Image
Crow on a Branch in the Fog Yesterday, it was foggy. A real thick, dark, grey, scary movie kind of fog.  Something about it, and the schedule I wanted to keep, made me want to put on my new walking shoes and get out there in the fog.  I know I talked about fog before, a few times. Each time I talk about it, I realize I am in a different frame of mind. Either in a fog myself , or  happy to greet the fog , sometimes it's  spectacular fog  or the  challenges becoming clear in the fog .  Foggy Hill   Yesterday, I had a completely different reaction to the fog.  A scary movie walk kind of fog which in my mind was set to be FUN FOG.  I realized how important attitude can be. On most other days, I would look out at the fog, ponder its wonderful wet beauty, and say to myself - ' No walk right now' . Yesterday, all I could think was - 'Hey, that would be a cool walk !' Tiny Spiderweb in the Bush With the 'scary movie walk' ...

Walking on Wednesday - I got my new shoes on

Well, not yet, but first thing tomorrow I sure will. I finally decided to invest in a proper new pair of walking shoes. Well, technically they are sneakers, but hubby hates that word, so just call them my walking shoes. It had been at least 3 years since I bought new sneakers, errr walking shoes. I noticed the treads on mine were a bit worn, well, nearly smooth actually, and thought I should really get some new ones because maybe that is why my knee has been hurting me.  So off I went this afternoon to the mall with my daughter for some new walking shoes. Is it bad I bought them the first store I went in, the first pair I tried on? Well, that is how much I love these shoes.  I put them on and said, " Wha??? This is how proper walking shoes should feel?" MAN what I was missing. So tomorrow morning, I will wake up, have my coffee and check my emails, slip on my new walking shoes and new sweatpants, and probably have the best walk I have had since we moved here. (I ha...
