Two for Tuesday! Whiter Shade of Pale - Conquistador

Image
We skipped the light fandango Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor What a mood Whiter Shade of Pale creates! Hubby was searching for this song the other day. That organ haunting his mind. He just had to find it, and we must have listened to it 6 times that day. But who doesn't love the imagery of skipping the light fandango ? The poetic nature of Procol Harum songs is wonderful. I never knew any other songs they did, so I searched, and found it is not just their popular hit that is like reading a great poetic story. And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind I feel it is safe to say, most people don't remember the unusual name of the band of that enduring classic song - one of the few singles to have sold over 10 million copies . And probably most are like me, and never heard  Conquistador , their second hit. I still get a kick out of their name, certainly not one that sticks with you, named after a cat . It never hurts ...

Two for Tuesday! I Will Buy You A New Life with One Hit Wonder

Image
It's another installment of 'get this song into your head - so it gets out of mine'. And a bonus Two for Tuesday, because I just didn't have time to hit "publish" on this blog yesterday. We have this album , Everclear 's So Much for the Afterglow , released in 1997, and it got put in the CD player the other week. Yes, we are old-skoolin' it with actual CD's in a CD player. (Not completely okd-skoolin' it with an AM Radio though) As you may have forgotten, when you start a CD player, it plays only the songs that are in there. I do think we are lucky to have a 5 disc player, and I believe it does have a shuffle feature, but that is not set at the moment so it plays one CD, moves on to the next, repeat 5 times. Also, if you forgot, it is kind of a pain to find CD's you actually want to listen to from your 15-25 year old, rather large and vaired collection. So you put in a set of 5 CD's and there they stay for weeks. So, this...

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday ~ Dog Days Are Over

Image
" Dog Days Are Over " Florence and the Machine cover courtesy of  moshi moshi records Dog Days.  Are they over?  Well, depends on what you think of when you say that.  The dog days are frequently referencing the hottest days of summer. The days when not much is happening, lazy days of summer, etc.  ( source ) Other interpretations say that dog days are about nothing happening…progress stagnating. And the horses coming in? That could be about things moving forward, 'getting a move one'. The horse is about power, wealth, victory. It’s about success. ( source )       Florence and the Machine interpreted their song quite colorfully back in 2008. And then in 2010, came out with this less colorful one, more white with splashes of color. Though hubby disagrees with me on the meaning of dog days, I am sticking with my interpretation of this song:  The stagnant times are done, things are about to get going again....

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday ~ Born Slippy with a Lust For Life

Image
Yesterday I just couldn't find a song I related to. Well, I did while running, but couldn't remember what those songs were by the time I was done. So instead I randomly searched for inspiration. I spent a long time looking for a song. Somehow, Born Slippy got on my 'suggestions'. I forgot how much I liked this song! And wouldn't this be great for a running playlist? YES! I just hope I am not on my way to a new tension headache..... Why Born Slippy ? The title of the song comes from a greyhound the band bet on and won . Then the 'suggested list' showed Iggy Pop , Lust For Life . (If you hadn't noticed the Trainspotting theme, yes these are on the soundtrack . Great movie !)  Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.  ( My new favorite lyric.) Nothing is better than Iggy's endless energy, never a shirt, dancing around like a crazy person. I might add this to my running playlist too..... If these songs don't get your day going,...

Under Pressure

Image
Under Pressure. The pressures of life, we feel them. We are either weighed down by them, crushed by them, or we grow stronger because of them. This week, I have experienced pressure. Pressure from the obligations of life. Pressure I impose on myself. Pressure others put on me. I have been weighed down, nearly crushed, but ultimately I have grown stronger, as I am still here, still going. The pressures don't have to get the best of us. And that is something we sometimes forget when we are feeling the pressure. We can let the pressure get the best of, but it is just as simple to overcome the pressure, and tackle each one as it appears. I was imposing on myself the pressure to write, on top of the month end pressures the business requires, along with the housekeeping pressures that always exist, the time pressures that never let up, the creative pressures I long to take more time on. All with the self imposed disgust from not running in almost an entire month. Not even ...

Music Monday! Two For Tuesday ~ Dropkick Murphys

Image
Well, I did it. I signed up for my second 5k run -  The 7th Annual Shamrock Run . Every time I go out and run, I find myself mentally preparing for the next run, and now I am committed. I know I have mentioned the play list my oldest son made for me for Christmas, so I won't bore you more with how much I love it, but I do want to feature one of the songs that really gets me going. And because it's Two For Tuesday you get 2 awesome songs by Dropkick Murphy's . I am in the process of figuring out the order of songs for my race playlist, and this first one is definitely on it, probably in the middle or end somewhere because it really boosts me. Also, it is fitting to feature in celebrating the Shamrock Run! What a kick-ass band. There is just something about the toughness, go for it all attitude of this Irish Punk Rock Band . This next song is not currently on my run playlist, but may get added for the end of the race...... A wee bit o' bagpipes is also...

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday!! Imagine we Paint It Black

Image
Wow has it really been a month since my last post? I am so sorry all!! If you haven't heard, we opened a shop in downtown Asheville - Blue Rage of Asheville . It is celebrating Asheville - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. We have vintage and antiques in honor of Asheville in the Art Deco period when it was flourishing.  We have local talent creating jewelry, pottery, and arts and crafts to celebrate the vibrant community of Asheville today.  And we will be featuring up and coming talent in our gallery section to celebrate Asheville tomorrow. Because of this new venture, I have been quite absent from Raige Creations and this blog.  But, here on my second day off since we started this whole new venture of Blue Rage, I thought it was time to get blogging again. And because it's Tuesday, that means you get 2 musical selections. First, because we have vintage records at the shop, and we have been listening to them on our record player, I want to feature John Lenno...

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday!! Bang on the Drum All Day - or Ukelele

Image
Yes, that was how Monday was for me - I just wanted to bang on the drum all day. No work - no accomplishing anything. I think I was not alone in this, as I saw postings all over Facebook about how no one wanted to work, no one accomplished anything, etc. So here's to banging on the drum all day ! It does us some good to do just bang on a drum, slack, relax, accomplish nothing, at least once in a while. The ironic thing in this is that Todd Rundgren  played all the instruments on this track. That was hard work. Then he became a resident of Hawaii, and took it a little easier with this version of his wildly popular song. A slightly goofier version of the original. Here's to no work, being goofy, and banging on the drum all day!! Have a great Tuesday.

Double Feature Picture Show

Image
For missing Music Monday!, Two for Tuesday!! (what you normally get when I miss Music Monday!), and then Walking on Wednesday sneaking past, I had to do something unusual, entertaining, and quick! So, in honor of our movie night over last weekend, despite the hectic schedule and tons of stuff to do, here is a double feature plus TWO   for you. (for the Two for Tuesday - what you get when I miss Music Monday, plus a bonus of TWO for missing Walking on Wednesday)  We try to maintain movie night in our family, though it is tough. It is one thing we all look forward to as a family.   This particular piece of history we have watched this with the kids ever since they were young, believing that exposure with guidance, and humor mixed in, is the best way to deal with raising curious children. Now that they are older, they love the audience participation aspect and entertainment value of this cult classic. It has great music - the kind that gets stuck in your head. Many s...
