Music Monday! These Eyes

Ever since last Thursday, this song,  'These Eyes' by The Guess Who, has been in my head. WHY?  Because of these eyes.

Last Thursday morning, I woke up at 6:05am (like I do every weekday to get the kids to school), noticed the door to my daughters room was already open, she was not there. Still half asleep, I notice the kitchen light was on. I shuffle in there, the light hurting my tired eyes. I see my daughter hovered over the kitchen counter by the coffee maker.

"Are you OK?" I ask worried and confused as to why she was in the kitchen so early. She mumbles "Yeah", (she is not a morning person), and I notice the message board on the fridge, and the picture next to it.

"Oh" is all I can manage to say, still a little groggy. Then, "Oh, you're making coffee!". I walk over to her and hug her, she is still hovered over the coffee maker struggling with the filter. I notice she is not sure how is all works, so give her some pointers, and thank her profusely for being up so early and making the coffee, the wonderful message, and these eye's! I feel kind of strange about these eyes ---- they look eerily familiar --- but no --- or are they???

I decided to take advantage of this momentous gesture, and let her finish. I went and laid down on the couch, waiting for a nice cup of hot coffee that I didn't have to make myself. 

But 'These Eyes' by The Guess Who popped in my head, from way back in my childhood, and just would not leave.  The song came out in 1968, and played for years on the AM radio that my parents had on all day, every day. I heard it all through the early 1970's. And  ever since last Thursday morning, I have heard it in my head every day.

Why do these eyes look so eerie to me? Did you guess it?  Yes, they are MY eyes! 

 

She looked at a picture of me,

 and drew MY EYES!

What do you think? I think they are darn good, even if I do say so myself. She has just learned 'eye's' in art class, thus the drawing of these eyes. She loves to draw them, too.

I have since taken her to the store, bought her some new pencils and some nice heavy weight paper, and I am encouraging her to draw lots of eyes. Then, I want to list them in the shop. I think there may be a market for 'These Eyes'. She is leaning towards going to school for art, so what better way to build a portfolio? 

Would you want your eyes drawn? I bet I can convince her to take commissions.

Then you too can walk around your house, singing These Eyes.
