Weekend Musings ~ Be One of Us

Image
It seems I am always writing in my head, but can't seem to get it written on the computer until I have a long weekend. A long weekend meant for relaxing. This long weekend sneaked up on me. Work has been so incredibly busy for the last month, someone asked me what I was doing for the long weekend and I had no idea what they were talking about. But suddenly I looked forward to a nice, slow, long coffee mornings, weekend. What a few weeks it has been! I won't bore you with work, no. Instead, I will share how wonderful hubby has been through all this. This week he was the one that brought a smile to my face one morning, after his foray at the bulk store, by putting this little guy in the cupboard. GOOD MORNING MR SQUIRREL! Koffee Kult How can you NOT smile with this crazy looking squirrel greeting you? Plus, I got one squirrel point! Whatever that is....I love squirrels, and this crazy one has me smiling before I even make the coffee, which is no small feat. Hubby also ...

Friday Find - Stories, A Stormy Start, Snails, Plants, Flowers, and Coffee (or late coffee really)

Image
Taking a minute to take stock of the week. It boils down to: Stories, A Stormy Start, Snails, Plants, Flowers, and Coffee (or late coffee really). Sounds nice and simple, right? Even if a little horrifying (late coffee....). But dang I am tired. It has been a long week! Stories: I did manage to get some writing in, but I have to wait to share because it will be published (!)  on this great site, Women Who Live On Rocks . It is a site featuring a fabulous group of women who, well, live on rocks. It is a collaboration of funny women writers celebrating the humorous quirks and eccentricities unique to island living . (See regular postings on the Facebook page.) It will be my first article published there, and I am so excited to have a new outlet. Hubby stumbled across this site, and thought I would like to expand my writing a bit. As hubby said, it is more a story telling style, which he knew I would find rather challenging. I also have been taking some photos, again, w...

Music Monday - (Give it to me, baby)

Image
So, what comes to your head when you read that? "Uh huh, uh huh!" Yup. So when I told hubby "I brought you some coffee" to wake him up, he said "Give it to me, baby" to which I replied "Uh huh, uh huh" because, yeah, what else goes with that request? And, all day, in my head, this song was. Yup, I was keepin' it real. Enjoy!

Slow Sunday

Image
I commented to hubby this morning, "there is nothing better than having coffee with you, out here, on a Sunday morning". "Bee Happy" photo courtesy of Raige Creations. I totally felt that, right then, in the moment. I was truly enjoying my slightly sweetened and slightly creamy coffee, after a very good 3.1 mile run (I went past our place to get over the 3 mile mark....yes I was that runner today), and just relishing the moment (even tho hubby was trying to talk politics....my least favorite subject). I feel I should add - this was all before 8am! I just realized at that moment, I was thankful for the slow Sunday we were enjoying. You might say, "SLOW? you call getting up before 6am and running 3 miles slow?" And to that I say, "YES!!" I could get out of bed at my leisure, not because I HAD to at that moment. I got to go for that run, and witness a most beautiful sunrise, and watch an older gentleman line-fishing off shore in the fo...

Music Monday! Afternoons & Coffeespoons

'Times when the day is like a play by Sartre When it seems a book burning's in perfect order'... As I sit and stare at the boxes in the basement, living room, and piles of stuff throughout the house, at least I have this peppy tune to make light of the situation. I am prepping for a yard sale, compiling piles of our things that we no longer need or want. Add to that about 20 boxes of books just picked up at an auction, and I wholeheartedly agree with the lyrics posted at the beginning. A book burning may just be a good idea! A few of the boxes But no, these were bought in the hopes of re-selling to make a wee bit of money to actually help us in our move. The reality is that this is a task I am quite overwhelmed with. I love books, but this is ridiculous!  'Too much of a good thing can be taxing' , as Mae West said . A few more of the boxes If I had the time, it would be great to sort through, scan some, and read others, If I had time t...

Zibbet Exhibit ~ Burlap Possibilities

Image
I made a goal to feature more creative people this year, so along these lines, the Zibbet Exhibit is a great way to show many interpretations on a single theme or idea by many different talented artisans and artists.  Today, the idea is burlap . I love the look of burlap, and have even tried my hand at being creative with burlap . It is a challenging thing to work with, so that these creations are so well done tells you something about the talent of these creators.  There is so much you can do with burlap, these are just some of the possibilities.  Coffee Pillow Cover by Texas Eagle Gallery Rustic Burlap Roses by Accents & Petals Sunflower and Burlap Bow by Knitting Nadia Ivory and Burlap Mason Jars by The Vintage Artistry Coffee Sack - Little Bookend Owl by Tailys Little Burlap Bows – Bobby Pin Set by BE Something New Deep Purple Burlap Wreath by Trend to Trend Wreaths Purple Felt Pinwheel with Burlap b...

Favorite Hour of the Day ~ NaBloPoMo prompt

Image
My favorite hour of the day............. There is the early morning, if I happen to be able to get out of bed, just while it's getting light. The birds are just starting to make noise, the sky is a beautiful hue, and there is so much possibility. I make coffee, do the morning routine until it is finished brewing, and then sit and ponder what the day has in store. source Or else it's Tea Time. I love tea in the afternoon, if I am not too tired by then to put the kettle on. It is a time to re-group and relax a bit. Sometimes it is just the right thing to get me motivated to cook dinner. source: Raige Creations Sometimes, my favorite time of day is when I wake up in the middle of the night, glance at the clock and see it's only 2am! I still have 4 hours to stay in bed, in the quiet darkness, no chores to hop up and get started, no thoughts of the stresses ahead.  from Random Betrayals on tumbler.com Quiet darkness, cozy covers, time to dream some more. Walking on Wednesday ~ My Sudden Insomniac Ways

Image
I am much too old to stay up until 2:30 am and get up at 6:00 am. But that is just what I did Monday night. Why? Probably one of the most common reasons people cannot sleep. Stress. I had tried to relax after working my 6th day in a row, avoided turning on my computer when I got home. I just watched the boob tube until my brain finally quieted down and I dozed off on the couch. But then ~ midnight rolled around and on my way to bed from the couch it hit me! I HAD SO MUCH TO DO!! Thus my brain and body said - NO SLEEP FOR YOU . I mindlessly did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, the tried to find my brain and write all of my 'to-do's on the message board. Then I felt compelled to turn on my computer, and I printed off the past 4 months of bank statements and proofed some graphics and worked on my blog.   Finally, I forced myself to bed at 2:30 am.  The alarm going off at 6:00 am hurt. But I got up and did the normal morning rituals, except in a slight dream like state. B...
