Two for Tuesday! Whiter Shade of Pale - Conquistador

Image
We skipped the light fandango Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor What a mood Whiter Shade of Pale creates! Hubby was searching for this song the other day. That organ haunting his mind. He just had to find it, and we must have listened to it 6 times that day. But who doesn't love the imagery of skipping the light fandango ? The poetic nature of Procol Harum songs is wonderful. I never knew any other songs they did, so I searched, and found it is not just their popular hit that is like reading a great poetic story. And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind I feel it is safe to say, most people don't remember the unusual name of the band of that enduring classic song - one of the few singles to have sold over 10 million copies . And probably most are like me, and never heard  Conquistador , their second hit. I still get a kick out of their name, certainly not one that sticks with you, named after a cat . It never hurts ...

Music Monday! Friday On My Mind

Image
This song may just get me through Monday....and Tuesday.....and well you get the idea. I really try not to 'live for the weekend' , but lately I have just been worthless after work during the week. I get up barely in time to have a leisurly cup of coffee and easy shower before work, and then after work I just want to sit and browse the web and watch Shark Tank . (We have TV again, and I forgot what a mesmorizing magnet it can be....)  It is only on the weekends that I can aget done the stuff I WANT to get done. The one good thing is, that I CAN get the things I want to do done. Now that we are back to renting (a weight has been lifted, no more renovations, no more stresses of home ownership, no more fighting with strata, and no more bad neighbors.  [Actually we don't really know our neighbors yet but that is A-OK for now. At least they are yelling at us and nearly running in to us with their car- yes those things did happen and that is all I have to say about that] ...

Music Monday! Feelin' Groovy

Image
I wish I was.... This is such a peppy tune, I hope it makes your Monday feel less terrible. I need all the help I can get to feel groovy. This cold ... And that is all I am going to say about that. Instead of more complaining , I will wish you all the joy you can find in chatting with a lampost and kicking down the cobble stones. After all, complaining don't do no good. Happy Monday!

Music Monday! These Boots Are Made For

Image
Original Artwork by Paige These boots were made for art class actually,  by my daughter. But how can you see a picture of boots and not think of Nancy Sinatra and These Boots Are Made For Walkin' ?  It didn't help that we found  Austin Powers  on the telly last week. It is a good tune to start the week, especially when last week was sort of my 'week off' and I really could use a boost to get some crap done this week!  Last week, -I took the week off from running (and even walking) ,  -I took the week off from blogging (was 2 months of NaBloPoMo too much? perhaps. But I wonder this week if I had that to get me blogging I wouldn't have dropped the ball there) , -I even took the week off from putting real pants on! (I did put on leggings and sweatpants, don't worry.) I did manage to: -list some Jewelry for Bridget (all the jewelry from the Blue Rage , with still loads more to list)  ( Artfire section for AF shoppers , Zibbet se...

Music Monday! Amadeus Batman

Image
I bet you are laughing. Those two things do not seem to go together, I would normally agree. Under any other circumstances, this is true. But today, these two things were how I started the day. A discussion since last night has rocked us. Yes, the 80's are trendy now, strange to us who grew up in the 80's. It was fun then, but to re-live? To be reminded of some of the fashion, the 'whatever' of the 80's - that we could certainly do without. But once in a while, a song pops back in our heads, and there it sits. And with discussion of the 1980's, this song, Rock Me Amadeus , came up and it has remained there in the forefront of our minds ever since. No, we do not understand much of what he is saying, so we mumble along until.... Amadeus Amadeus, Amadeus Amadeus Amadeus, Amadeus Amadeus Amadeus, oh oh oh Amadeus Come on and rock me Amadeus. So why Batman? Bat- Girl , actually, showed up at our house early this morning. When I dropped her...

Music Monday! Crimson and Clover, Over and Over!

Image
As I try to get back into a normal schedule, I am really loving this song and this long version of it. It is a groovy way to start the week. Hopefully a nice and normal week. With school starting, the oldest now off at college, the shop duties taking up most of my waking hours, it is hard to feel consistency these days. This week, I am hoping to really get back to normal even if it is a new normal. I am ready for the comfort of repetition and steady schedule rather than the chaos of jam packed days in ten different directions. Crimson and Clover, over and over should set the tone. This song was written in an effort to change the band's directio n, and it experimented with sounds and effects . Another fitting theme for this week. Embracing a new direction at t he shop , and finding a schedule that will fit some aspects of the old schedule I was comfortable with.  Happy Monday and here's to new beginnings and old ways.

Music Monday! These Eyes

Image
Ever since last Thursday, this song,  'These Eyes'  by  The Guess Who ,  has been in my head. WHY?   Because of these eyes. Last Thursday morning, I woke up at 6:05am (like I do every weekday to get the kids to school), noticed the door to my daughters room was already open, she was not there. Still half asleep, I notice the kitchen light was on. I shuffle in there, the light hurting my tired eyes. I see my daughter hovered over the kitchen counter by the coffee maker. " Are you OK? " I ask worried and confused as to why she was in the kitchen so early. She mumbles " Yeah " , (she is not a morning person), and I notice the message board on the fridge, and the picture next to it. " Oh " is all I can manage to say, still a little groggy. Then, " Oh, you're making coffee! " . I walk over to her and hug her, she is still hovered over the coffee maker struggling with the filter. I notice she is not sure how is all works, so give her so...

Walking on Wednesday - Grandma's Apron

Image
The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven; it was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was eve used for cleaning out dirty ears. Old Time Kitchen Vintage Waist Apron From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. Vintage Christmas Smock Apron When company came those old aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids; and when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms. Brown Checked Smock Apron Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling-wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. Cottage Country Vintage Waist Apron From the garden it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls. Bright Blue Vintage Smock Apron In the ...

Music Monday! Brown Eyed Girl

Image
A great song to get you out of the Monday Blah's !  I was having them big time this morning.  (Had to pay bills, which was doubly no fun because we are scraping bottom of the barrel - and it is downright chilly this morning! Not to mention it is MONDAY! UGH!!) Thanks to a FB friend, this song proved to be the mood lifter I needed. Being a brown eyed girl , when I was little I thought this song was about me .  It came out 4 years before I was born, but when your little, you don't know those things, just that the song makes you feel special. It was what I needed - having a brother and and a sister with light eyes - I though this song was meant just for me. And seeing this video, where Van looks downright uncomfortable having to be on stage doing this, made me smile. Seems we all have to do things we get uncomfortable doing...... So enjoy this, and your Monday!  Oh, and if you love Van, you can catch him still touring !! Cheers!

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday!! Purple Haze, there must be some way out of here....

Image
Perfect for this Two for Tuesday, since Benedryl left me in a HAZE for 2 days! (and well, I like purple) I found myself this morning desperate to find some way out of that dreamy, cloudy feeling. I now remember why I stopped taking the stuff. It went a little like this today: Wake up, take Benedryl, sit at computer, doze off, fall into heavy dreaming sleep, wake up, try to figure out if this is still a dream , have nagging feeling I need to do something, but can't remember what, and know I am unprepared for it. Resolve to get back to work, sit at computer, doze off again, dream I volunteered to speak in front of my high school children's class, about what I do. In dream, I am late, and reconsider that high school children will want to learn how to crochet, or even care, get interrupted so I am even later . Wake up, still feeling like I am in a dream, wondering what it is I am supposed to be doing that i just can't remember. I can't get my head out of that dream feelin...

Music Monday! I Want Candy!

Image
With Halloween right around the corner, this song popped into my head and I haven't been able to get it out since. I was introduced to Bow Wow Wow  in the early 1980's with this song, along with the whole British  New Wave  genre. This song is an easy one to get stuck in your head with the tribal drum beats and great voice of Annabella Lwin , who was at the tender age of 14 when this song was popular. Though 'Candy' in this song does not mean Halloween candy, the desire for 'Candy' is unquestionable. This song is actually a cover of the original 1960's song by The Strangeloves , who actually have a funny story. They were an American band from New York who pretended to be from Australia. According to the press releases, The Strangeloves were three brothers named Giles, Miles and Niles Strange who had grown up on an Australian sheep farm. The brothers' faked backstory involved getting rich with the invention of a new form of sheep crossbreeding (the...
