Walking on Wednesday - Walking in the Rain ~ What a Glorious Feeling

Gene Kelly was right - what a glorious feeling!
I did it. I walked in the rain. Normally, when rain clouds are around, I stay in. I have balked at walking in the rain many a day.

But today, I did it.

The forecast calls for thunderstorms all day. We woke to gray skies and dark, imminent rain clouds. In fact, when I dropped the kids off to school (they missed the bus) there were tiny little raindrops on the windshield of my car.

But when I got home, I decided I really needed to walk today. I hope to accomplish a whole bunch today, and if I didn't get my walk in, the whole plan would be shot. --I do not deal well with shattered plans, just ask hubby.--

A half hour after I got home, I still hadn't got out the door. Normally this would set me off into a panicked frustrated rush. Today, I decided that it was was okay. Now is just as good as a half hour ago.  No matter that the sidewalk showed signs of raindrops.

I would just get wet today.

Off I went. I was amazed at the tiny raindrop, and completely enjoyed how they kissed my face. I was in awe at how clouds kissed the mountains in the distance. The breeze was cool. The big, grey sky was not ominous at all. The depths of colors of grey were beautiful. (Lady J even almost caught a squirrel!) It really was glorious!

I realized today - even though it was barely a rain, walking in the rain was not the obstacle I thought it would be.  I also realized that although my 'great plan' for the day had been altered right from the start, being flexible enough to accept the new plan made it possible to achieve what I had wanted to achieve.

Moral of the story?

Do not fear the grey days ahead, walk right through the clouds and rain and find the glorious feeling of achieving what you set out to do. And remember to be flexible enough along the way to accept the changes in the way you have to do it, so that you may achieve your goals.

  1. You are terribly profound today, Ms. Rebecca - ummmmm, in a GOOD way! I like to walk in the rain and think it feels ultra-healthy, the mist on the cheeks, and so on.....
    Nice, I enjoyed your walk!

  2. It's pouring here. I'm chicken. I'd rather stay inside cozy and dry. Just might build a fire in the woodburningstove....

  4. What a beautiful post!

When I lived on the coast in the Pacific Northwest, I quickly learned that walking in the rain isn't as terrible as it may same. It's actually quite enjoyable . . . & if you don't learn to enjoy it, you will be miserable as it rains all the time.

Thank you for stopping by Tuesday Alchemy's challenge blog & I hope you will partake in our challenges!
