Music Monday ~ Time in a Bottle

Image
Wow, I hadn't heard this song in YEARS! And here it was...but modern, heavy, cool! We watched Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw - our Saturday night 'date' movie. I wasn't real excited to watch it, but when it started with this song, my mood changed. Was this that song I used to LOVE? Wait, it IS Time in a Bottle , but ROCKIN'!! Okay, this could be a good movie then, if they picked that song , my warped thinking was (it was almost midnight....) And I actually enjoyed the movie, even though it was a completely predicable ridiculous action movie, it was entertaining.  This version, the cover of this oldie but goodie, it was not bad! The song is one of the few songs I learned to play with few mistakes (mostly) on the piano. I have a music box that plays this song. I love this song, and have since the 1970's. I always loved the original Jim Croce song. Yes, it is one of those AM Radio songs I heard playing in the kitchen when I was young. But this cover w...

Music Monday ~ Lovely Day

Image
Surprisingly, this song had the distinct effect of making my day...well....lovely.  I was driving to work one day last week, in heavy traffic. I have mentioned before , perhaps a few times , how bad traffic is. A normal 20 minute drive takes me 40 or 45 minutes during rush hours. I was getting more and more irritated, going 4 miles per hour, then 12, then 4, then stop. Oh, and excuse me I was leaving space between vehicles, not saying please cut me off.  Geeze. And then this song came on. Well, it was just a lovely song really. So mellow. It has quite a nice message too. I mean how sweet the lyrics are! Just lovely. By the time I got to work, it actually WAS a lovely day. No the traffic didn't get better. My mood did. I was noticeably in a better mood, humming along this quite , well frankly quite repetitive, song.  After so many lovely days you just start having a lovely day! Just goes to show you, we can change our moods and perspectives. Sometimes all it takes is...

Music Monday! Hooked on a Feeling

Image
Yup. Hooked on this song apparently. I heard it on the radio driving in to town the other day. I cranked up the volume, and sang along as loud as I could. And then over the weekend it came up in conversation...can't remember that conversation now but I got to hear it again. And there it has been in my head, stuck. Every time I hear it, I want to sing it, and sing it loud. I like sing along songs, particularly since singing is good for you . Plus, both sing and dance are on this great list of advice for living. What a GREAT feeling that was in the car, though! There is something so liberating about singing alone in the car while your driving. I hadn't let loose like that since, well at least since before the lockdown . And honestly, I didn't let loose much before that because traffic was so bad people sitting in cars right next to me would have seen me blaring out the song and doing a little dance sitting behind the steering wheel and that would have just been we...

Music Monday! Morning Has Broken

Image
This song brings back memories of Easter and church for me. It was played many Easters at our church when I was growing up. My father was the organ player, and I loved to hear him play this in practice at home, and then again at church. When I heard it playing Cat Sevens version on the radio, I loved it. A church song playing on the radio - how cool. I was then, and still am, a Cat Stevens fan . I was a kid then, I thought AM radio was cool. I still do actually - it WAS cool back in the 70's. Whatever it takes to bring the idea to the masses that we should give thanks. It was said by the editor of the hymnal it was first published in (In 1931) that:  " there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day ." There IS a need to give thanks each day. A habit I have been trying to keep up with. So give thanks, even though it is Monday. Give thanks that we have..... beautiful music , sunshine , rainfall , wind , chocolate (I am sure you all have...

Two for Tuesday! I Will Buy You A New Life with One Hit Wonder

Image
It's another installment of 'get this song into your head - so it gets out of mine'. And a bonus Two for Tuesday, because I just didn't have time to hit "publish" on this blog yesterday. We have this album , Everclear 's So Much for the Afterglow , released in 1997, and it got put in the CD player the other week. Yes, we are old-skoolin' it with actual CD's in a CD player. (Not completely okd-skoolin' it with an AM Radio though) As you may have forgotten, when you start a CD player, it plays only the songs that are in there. I do think we are lucky to have a 5 disc player, and I believe it does have a shuffle feature, but that is not set at the moment so it plays one CD, moves on to the next, repeat 5 times. Also, if you forgot, it is kind of a pain to find CD's you actually want to listen to from your 15-25 year old, rather large and vaired collection. So you put in a set of 5 CD's and there they stay for weeks. So, this...

Music Monday! I Don't Like Mondays

Image
Completely feeling like this today.  I just don't like Mondays, especially today. Tell me why I don't like Monday today. I can tell you:   I gotta pay the rent, pay the cable and internet bills And it is raining and cloudy out.  I am tired, I miss the kids (we had a wonderful lazy holiday weekend). I gotta bathe the dog, do laundry, then figure out what to cook for dinner.  And somehow I gotta find the motivation to package up some things and get them off in the mail.  Then I gotta go to the Post Office. I gotta get upstairs to tackle those new coffee bags. Oh and then I gotta finish those mug cozies, meaning I gotta re-do them so they don't slide off. I hate re-doing things. I hate chores. I don't feel like going out in the rain.   I just don't like Monday today. But don't worry, no shooting spree will come out of this. I am just letting my grumpy side show for a change. Do you like Mondays?  If so, please tell me why you like Mondays!...

Music Monday! Brown Eyed Girl

Image
A great song to get you out of the Monday Blah's !  I was having them big time this morning.  (Had to pay bills, which was doubly no fun because we are scraping bottom of the barrel - and it is downright chilly this morning! Not to mention it is MONDAY! UGH!!) Thanks to a FB friend, this song proved to be the mood lifter I needed. Being a brown eyed girl , when I was little I thought this song was about me .  It came out 4 years before I was born, but when your little, you don't know those things, just that the song makes you feel special. It was what I needed - having a brother and and a sister with light eyes - I though this song was meant just for me. And seeing this video, where Van looks downright uncomfortable having to be on stage doing this, made me smile. Seems we all have to do things we get uncomfortable doing...... So enjoy this, and your Monday!  Oh, and if you love Van, you can catch him still touring !! Cheers!

Music Monday! Band on the Run - by request!

Image
Here is a blast from the past,  requested by my friend Heather.  (thank you Heather now this song will be stuck in my head for days!) It immediately took me back to that AM Radio always on in our kitchen, always playing this song, always in the summertime (it seemed).  I was 2 years old when this song was released, but that AM Radio played this song for years. I remember it played every summer, standing in the kitchen on those hot summer days, getting breakfast, and planning our big, empty days. Where would WE be running today? Band on the Run Band on the Run Those were the only words we ever did remember anyways. As we were running through the backyard to begin our journey for the day. My kids are on summer vacation now, so to celebrate lazy summer days, and inspire journeys of summer exploration, we can all sing: Band on the Run Band on the Run

Music Monday! Two for Tuesday!! Purple Haze, there must be some way out of here....

Image
Perfect for this Two for Tuesday, since Benedryl left me in a HAZE for 2 days! (and well, I like purple) I found myself this morning desperate to find some way out of that dreamy, cloudy feeling. I now remember why I stopped taking the stuff. It went a little like this today: Wake up, take Benedryl, sit at computer, doze off, fall into heavy dreaming sleep, wake up, try to figure out if this is still a dream , have nagging feeling I need to do something, but can't remember what, and know I am unprepared for it. Resolve to get back to work, sit at computer, doze off again, dream I volunteered to speak in front of my high school children's class, about what I do. In dream, I am late, and reconsider that high school children will want to learn how to crochet, or even care, get interrupted so I am even later . Wake up, still feeling like I am in a dream, wondering what it is I am supposed to be doing that i just can't remember. I can't get my head out of that dream feelin...

Music Monday! "Little Black Backpack..." I mean Basket!

Image
Since I have been singing this all weekend while creating my little Black and White Basket , I thought I would share it for today's Music Monday - Stroke 9's "Little Black Backpack".  Remember when this was on the radio all the time in the 90's?   It sure gets stuck in your head, and try to say this 5 times fast:  Just don't expect to get your bloody black backpack back link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0yYCqkt0VE&feature=PlayList&p=F328EBAA3DA0EC1B&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=31

Monday Monday's got me Califonia Dreaming

Image
Every other day [every other day] of the week is fine, yeah, but whenever Monday comes [but whenever Monday comes] you can find me crying, all of the time.....and has got me California Dreaming , all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey..... These songs popped in my head first thing when seeing my youngest son's face this morning.  It's grey and raining, and news of snow in the south had us off to a sad start this Monday morning. Then, over coffee, my husband and I were 'going retro' in our heads, and remembering these songs on the AM Radio when we were young.... which inevitably gave way to later memories including this one: (don't' worry about the warning - just re-click on the object and it will open) If you can relate to any, or all, of the references in this video, then this should brighten your Monday. :D
