Walking on Wednesday ~ The Paths We Take

Image
A difficult path, not taken this day from Raige Creations T his is not the first time I have thought about paths , the paths we take , the path of living , and choosing paths . It is not the first time a path has intrigued me . Heck, Walking on Wednesday is all about walking on paths.  This path above is one, on this particular day, I chose NOT to take. We have before. But this day I was not up for it. It just seemed too tough.  And that is okay. Some days we just cannot walk down a difficult path.  I was going through some stresses at work, which I cannot go in to details about. I can only say some days as a manager are frustratingly tough. It will work itself out, but dang the emotions of the past couple day took me down some ugly paths.  And next time, I WILL go down the path pictured above, as it leads to somewhere totally different, and some days you just need to mix it up a bit.  But this day, the same old path was just fine. There was comfort the...

Music Monday! Into The Wild

Image
Into the wild.... I heard this song while on a walk/run. It is such an inspirational song to me, I love the whistling, and the strength of her voice, and the lyrics........ Somebody left the gate open You know we got lost on the way Come save us a runaway train Gone insane How do we how do we not fade How do we how do we how do we not fade away How do we how do we oooh Into the wild How are we living living living Into the wild How are we living living living Are we lost on the way? I say only if the gate is closed. With the gate open, we are living. source The gate is opening for us...and I myself am quite looking forward to be on a runaway train, gone insane! {also metaphorically} Am I more scared than not....not this time! It is about time we got up, out of this rut, ask that important question - how are we living - and take off down that path we need to go.... Into the wild.... Wooohoooh!  Woohooahoo Heeeyyy Heeey Is...

Music Monday! Wake Me Up

Image
Yes, please. Someone Wake Me Up .  I can't believe how much I slept all weekend. Naps were frequent, if short, and actually I loved being so lazy ~ at first.  But I knew things had gone too far when I actually contemplated going to pick up the pizza in my pajamas. I had been in pajamas all weekend actually. Well, not the same ones, I did shower Saturday, but put on new pajamas. So Sunday night, when I actually considered going out in my PJ's, I knew something was off. This morning, I was well on my way to another day of PJ's and couch time, dozing off at 8:30am! What the heck is wrong with me? (I like to blame an evil couch, it has this effect on many that come to our house.) I knew this rabbit hole I was going down was not going to be full of adventure , it very well could become a downward spiral . I had to brake the cycle! I decided against a run (again - been several days now, but that is another thing that is 'off', still figuring that out). I sho...

Walking on Wednesday ~ The Long Walk is Part of the Gift

Image
When a young girl in Africa heard that her teacher would be leaving their village, she wanted to give her a special gift.  The girl didn't have any money to buy a present for her teacher, but finally she decided what she would do.   The Long Walk photo: Raige Creations at Craggy Pinnacle She was gone for two days and when she returned she was carrying the most exquisite shell anyone in her village had ever seen. Her teacher was amazed.  "Where did you get this?" she asked. The child told her that such shells were found only on a certain faraway beach. The teacher was deeply touched, because she knew that the girl had walked many miles to find the shell. "You shouldn't have traveled so far just to find a gift for me," she said. The girl smiled and explained, "The long walk is part of the gift." The Tree and the Rock photo:  Raige Creations  at  Craggy Pinnacle It is an old story, one I read probably 30 years ago in Reader's Dig...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Writing by Hand

Image
My daughter is so sweet and thoughtful. When back to school shopping she insisted on buying me a journal. Out of the blue! She brought me over to the journal section in the book store and asked which one I liked. I thought she was getting one for herself. "Well you have to pick honey, it's up to you" , I said.  She said, "No I want you to pick!"   " Why?" I asked.  "Well, I want to get one for you" , she said.  I was confused. " Uh, why?"   Why did I need a journal???  She said, " For you to write in. You want to start writing, Mom, so this will help you.  It will help you write, you can put quotes in there too, and get your ideas down." I mumble...and say "But I write on the computer" ....and she rolls her eyes. She continues, with a hint of disappointment  "I thought sometimes I could write quotes in there too, and you can bring this with you anywhere, and it's pretty isn't it?"   ...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Don't Panic

Image
In an effort to relax in the evenings, I have taken up reading again. I feel the need to escape into other worlds at the end of these long, stressful days. Sadly, I have misplaced my Kindle, much to the upset of hubby and family, who helped me try to find it last week. (Instead we found the largest hairball under the couch, and I found a pile of clothes on my closet floor, all of these things a whole other story.)   I really have no idea where it is, which is very upsetting first of all because it is an expensive thing to forget where you put it. Second, I really want to get some new books, for free as we are on such a strict budget, and I need a break from the stress.  But I really can't think of where it is!!!   So, I was handed The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by my oldest, who says I will like it even though I have seen the movie . So far, I do like it, when I manage to stay awake long enough to get through more than one chapter.  Particularl...

Thursday Thought of the Day ~ Trust the Journey

Though we may get frustrated that the path is hard to see,  and we might think we have made a wrong turn, trust that the journey   is where we find the rewards.

Walking on Wednesday ~ Is Everybody Happy?

Image
A simple question, without a simple answer. Or is there? There are many studies on happiness , theories on how to be happy , web pages dedicated to telling you how to find happiness , discussions about why we are NOT happy. We have complicated something that really isn't that complicated.  It really can be simple. Over at the Zibbet Community , a great thread asks  Is Everybody Happy ? Here we, quite simply, name 3 things that were positive about our day.  That's it. Just 3 things. It is said we will love how it makes us feel. Some days it is hard to find 3 things that made us happy during the day. But if you really think about it, I bet you realize you do not spend every part of every day unhappy. There are little things that bring you out of the grump, the negativity, the unhappy.  You may have to dig deep to find them, but they are there. In fact, I have found that often if I am having a bad day, I can take that negative and turn it around to a p...

Walking on Wednesday - Carpe Diem

Image
Carpe Diem. Carpe Diem literally means "to pick, pluck, pluck off, cull, crop, gather" . But it was used in the sense of, "to enjoy, seize, use, make use of" since 25BC . Having been in movies , songs , and even clay animation , this phrase has latched onto inspirational motivators and has been used to empower us, motivate us, and be our mantra to life. Seize the Day! Sometimes easier said than done, but still, it is a short and concise phrase that can apply to almost anyone or any situation. Today, it has helped me get through the day, the week really, as I prepare for The Big Love Fest this weekend. Just SAYING it gives me energy, purpose. It makes me feel like this is the best thing I can be doing, because I AM seizing the day, the opportunity that presented itself. Another saying that helps me right now is this:   There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path Okay, so Morpheus said it, in a science fiction film . It i...

Walking on Wednesday - I'm On Top of the World Part 1 - Craggy Gardens

Image
It isn't every day you can say 'I'm on top of the world' and literally be a mile high, completely feeling like you ARE on top of the world. We got to last Saturday. View from Craggy Pinnacle The kids were on Spring Break last week, and I wanted us to do something fun, something cheap if not free, and special. Since we can't take a trip for vacation (see cheap mentioned above) due to limited funds, and my oldest having to work several days of the week, it had to be local. Luckily, we happen to live in a mountain range that offers hikes and views that are incredible. We went for a hike last fall and that was such a wonderful day everyone was willing to hike again, but this time wanted to try a different hike.  We decided to pick an easy hike close to home. Craggy Gardens.   It is almost like going on vacation, but is only 9 miles from our house. Tunnels through the Rhododendron's The trail was said to be an 'easy' one, and only 1.4 miles, a...
