Music Monday ~ Wild Gilbert

Image
Well, it seems the best laid plans of mice and men  are in play here. We are weathering a storm just 2 days days before a planned trip to a wonderful mountain retreat for a wedding. A wedding we CANNOT MISS - it is our daughters wedding!  Despite my huge effort to travel BEFORE the storm (see above - daughter's wedding I CANNOT MISS), an argument with the poor airline customer service rep, and hours on the phone, we are stuck here with a storm,  now named IAN , I had just finally convinced the airline to waive the change fees and fare difference exorbitant price, as at the time there were no warnings yet, it was all for nothings as just then we found out the last seat was taken. No more empty seats before the storm was due to arrive. At some point, between closing hurricane shutters and filling water vessels, hubby shared this gem of a song with me. Hurricane Gilbert hit Jamaica in 1988. I don't mean clipped, I mean went across the entire country from one end to the oth...

Thankful For ~ Agatha Christie and Time Off

Image
Grateful. Thankful. It is said if we acknowledge what we are thankful for regularly it will make us happy. If we write down what we are grateful for we live a more fulfilled life. Lately, I am thankful for a good murder mystery. Who doesn't love a good murder mystery? Or is it just me? Source Reading, of course. I mean reading good, fictional murder stories. Though I am slightly fascinated by stories of serial killers, but that is another tangent, and lately I just like a good book that has a murder mystery to solve. I have been gobbling up suspense and mystery books lately. With the 'rona and being stuck on this rock I have been lucky enough to call home during it all, reading has kept me away from the news, which is a different kind of scary , and allowed me room to see different worlds and times all from the comfort of my couch. I have read mystery after mystery. Very light reading, most of them mildly predictable, but humorous and entertaining. This author , I like. I have...

Weekend Musings ~ BFLO

Image
What a whirlwind weekend last weekend was. Full of swirling emotions, travel, old friends, family I hadn't seen since I was a kid! All culminating in Buffalo, or BFLO in these days of acronyms. A lovely gift from my cousin, I have been wearing it every day. I love the little jingle the buffalo's make when I move my arm. I arrived to town for my brother's memorial service . He had suddenly passed away 2 weeks prior, and it was last weekend when the memorial service was scheduled. I arrived to my cousin's place, I will call her Host Cousin, late in the evening, trying to prepare for the potential turmoil of the weekend. But to my surprise and delight, her place was nothing but a haven of peace and tranquility. I was immediately drawn to her dining room table. A puzzle!  A puzzle! I was drawn to it and found it strangely calming. Now, my mother used to do puzzles. Or maybe not 'do' them but, had them out and in progress to mess with in the off c...

Thursday Thought of the Day ~ It's A Beautiful Day To Leave Me Alone

Image
I can be friendly and outgoing. I sometimes thoroughly enjoy conversations with strangers. Sometimes I keep my head down and try to avoid any conversations with strangers at all. I have even been known to be frowning in the grocery store to avoid someone saying something to me. Other women seem to regularly strike up conversations with me in the grocery store...I think the place I live is just filled with friendly people, or do other people regularly strike up conversations with strangers about what is on the shelves in the grocery store? Or it could be that they are interpreting me talking to myself as me trying to strike up conversation with them. That could be it. But many a conversation has happened, about beans, ground lamb, chips, produce the most. from brooklybackroom.com buy here Another time, we actually had someone ask my hubby if he was Mormon in a home improvment store. We were chatting about gardening and garden lights, and she was very nice, but you could t...
