Music Monday! I Try

Image
I Try. I try to be fashionable usually, be cool and roll with the punches, but what comes out is mostly soccer mom, middle age comfort clothes. Today, when hubby complained that it is a 'Macy Gray Day', (because he is freezing cold - story below) and I have a short sleeve shirt on with no jacket, I sometimes have to roll my eyes and silently mumble to myself. (By the way, it was in 65 degrees out when he said this. That is cold to him, a Caribbean Guy stuck in the middle of the US.)   At least it brings back a great memory of why we call cool days Macy Gray Days.  Macy Gray in a rockin' jacket. Why do we call it Macy Gray Days?  Because of this rocking funky cool jacket Macy Gray is wearing in this picture.  Sounds crazy, so here is the story. When we lived in the Caribbean, we once made a trip to Miami in January. We didn't bring any cold weather clothes, after all we were going to be in Miami where it is usually in the neighborhood of 80 degrees fahren...

Walking on Wednesday ~ When the Heck did THAT Happen?

Image
'Take time to stop and smell the flowers' they say.  Yes, that sounds like a good idea, but every time I stop and take a minute, I say to myself "When the heck did THAT happen?!?" Things are moving so fast these days, events that happen often take me by surprise. For example, my oldest is now in his second week of college! Yes, well into classes and settled in. I know we drove him there, unloaded all his things, said our goodbyes and drove home without him. (all in one day too, 5 1/2 hour drive each way. No wonder it is all a blur.)   See me hanging on tight.... when did he get so tall??? I look at the pictures and think 'When the heck did my little Cuddle Bear become a man?' It seems like it happened so fast, the last 18 years..... Then today, I nearly fell over when my  youngest  walked in the kitchen like this:   Sir, yes Sir! He is in JROTC, and uniforms are the dress each Wednesday. But when did he become such a handsome young man? (...

Walking on Wednesday - Window Shopping

Image
Window Shopping is usually "an activity that shoppers engage in by browsing shops with no intent to purchase, possibly just to pass the time between other activities, or to plan a later purchase ."  In these tough economic times, we all are doing our fair share of Window Shopping, hoping that we are in a position to 'later purchase'. There are even instructions on how to window shop on  http://www.wikihow.com/ !  There are 9 steps !! I am gong to make it easy for you today. This is a virtual walk , we are virtually window shopping . So there are no physical benefits, but there are plenty of mental benefits .  Enjoy these great finds in some of Zibbet 's fine shops. Lori's Styling Hair Stuff (good for wild little girl!) Music Monday stretched Till Tuesday

By the way, what's with the HAIR, is that part of the new image?   I try so hard not to get upset... This little hobby of mine  HAS gone too far.... See there was good music in 1985, and gotta love the rat tail.  And for those who were still in diapers in 1985, you heard something "new" today! :P

Saturday Sale - A Mother's Day Sale as a Tribute to My Mother

Image
- God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. -   Rudyard Kipling Mother's Day is fast approaching, so I have been busy creating things that I think my late mother would have loved.  My passion for a good read and memories of my mother's collection of books have inspired me to create beautifully decorative Page Savers (bookmarks). I also fondly remember my mother's compulsion to obtain any cute bag she came across.  She loved both books and bags of all kinds so much so that she couldn't stop collecting them.  And she was quite the collector! Her collection of both would rival any library or fashion designers inventories! She had rooms full of books, and closets  stuffed with  bags for any and all occasions.    This Mother's Day special is in honor of my late mother as I know that she would love to choose at least one of these bags to add to her collection,...

Scrunchies were patented?

Image
Yes, apparently first in the 1980's, then later revised several times, last in 1994, by Rommy Revson , albeit first named after her dog, Scunci!  As I learned in "Hair Scrunchies, Explained - Scrunchie 101" , apparently there has been some debate as to wether they were a fashion sin or still the fashionable "go-to hair accessory." Described thouroughly as: "A decorative pony tail holder for securely holding the hair of a user includes a band of elastic material with fabric surrounding the band and forming a plurality of radial projections extending circumferentially around a portion of the band. The pony tail holder may thus be secured to the hair by twisting the elastic band into a generally figure-eight configuration and folding it over itself to provide a tight band securing the hair with the radial projections extending circumferentially around the held hair of the user. " We never thought of such technicalities back then, and still don't t...
