Weekend Musings ~ I CAN Still Race

Image
What a race! The Flowers Sea Swim , a very well done event, this year is the 27th year it has been going! I trained a long time for this, since January. All through training, I simply wanted to just be able to swim a full mile without stopping. And at the start, I realized just how hard that would be. But, after months of training, I knew I could swim that far, even if I did stop to get the mouthful of water out of my mouth, or massaged a cramp, or slowed to get a better look at the fish. So the day came, and I wanted to swim it faster than I had in every training session. I was excitedly nervous. The weather was beautiful, even if a bit hot. The ocean was calm and a few clouds gave us some relief from the sun sometimes. Me and my numba! Never so proud to wear J16! Especially after I got my number painted on me! I felt so good, actually, with that number on. It was official now. Now, I just had to stash my stuff - they had a shuttle to take our stuff to the finish line....

What Running Has Taught Me ~ Success and The Jingle Bell Run 2013

Image
Long overdue, but finally: The Jingle Bell Run 2013 . AND What Running Has Taught Me ~ Finding Success in Every Effort The Jingle Bell Run 2013. Ho-Ho-Ho People have fun dressing up for this race. photo courtesy of  Thoughts of Raige I trained and planned for this race, with huge expectations. Huge for me that is. I wanted to better my time from last year, and not walk at all if I could help it. Mainly, I didn't want to throw up when I was done. I had high hopes for the race - see my big smile? I am in the baseball hat in the middle. photo courtesy of  Thoughts of Raige I succeeded in that last thing, I didn't want to throw up and fall over when I was done. That was it. But at least I felt good at the end. Perhaps not the best race, I was slower than last year. I did have to walk, but really just a little, and yes, it was on those confounded hills. I still couldn't drink the water at the water station, just couldn't catch my breath. (The...

Anticipating the Start Jingle Bell Run 2012 photo courtesy of Raige Creations To see how few days are left makes me a little nervous.  Well, a lot nervous.  Silly, I know, but since yesterday was a mostly walk type run, I am nervous about trying to run the entire race.  There are hills.  THAT I remember from last year .  Hill suck. Even if I do have to walk for a bit.  Just as long as I finish. Right? Just Finish, Right? Me Finishing the Jingle Bell Run 2012 photo courtesy of  Raige Creations Please visit my donation page and see if you can give a little for a good cause. If you can spare even a little, and can relate to the pain of Arthritis, or know someone who suffers, know this goes to help. Plus, that little donation helps me too. I suddenly become accountable for more that just me.  It will make the finish much sweeter. I am heading out  now  for my run  today, with my heavy sweatpants on.  It is...

Music Monday! Two For Tuesday ~ Dropkick Murphys

Image
Well, I did it. I signed up for my second 5k run -  The 7th Annual Shamrock Run . Every time I go out and run, I find myself mentally preparing for the next run, and now I am committed. I know I have mentioned the play list my oldest son made for me for Christmas, so I won't bore you more with how much I love it, but I do want to feature one of the songs that really gets me going. And because it's Two For Tuesday you get 2 awesome songs by Dropkick Murphy's . I am in the process of figuring out the order of songs for my race playlist, and this first one is definitely on it, probably in the middle or end somewhere because it really boosts me. Also, it is fitting to feature in celebrating the Shamrock Run! What a kick-ass band. There is just something about the toughness, go for it all attitude of this Irish Punk Rock Band . This next song is not currently on my run playlist, but may get added for the end of the race...... A wee bit o' bagpipes is also...
