Music Monday! Two for Tuesday ~ Dog Days Are Over

Image
" Dog Days Are Over " Florence and the Machine cover courtesy of  moshi moshi records Dog Days.  Are they over?  Well, depends on what you think of when you say that.  The dog days are frequently referencing the hottest days of summer. The days when not much is happening, lazy days of summer, etc.  ( source ) Other interpretations say that dog days are about nothing happening…progress stagnating. And the horses coming in? That could be about things moving forward, 'getting a move one'. The horse is about power, wealth, victory. It’s about success. ( source )       Florence and the Machine interpreted their song quite colorfully back in 2008. And then in 2010, came out with this less colorful one, more white with splashes of color. Though hubby disagrees with me on the meaning of dog days, I am sticking with my interpretation of this song:  The stagnant times are done, things are about to get going again....

Friday Find ~ Finding Hidden Talent - Glass Creations

Image
Handblown glass has always intrigued me, the process being one that looks incredibly difficult to me. Not to mention the heat and danger associated with this art form. Even calling it an artform can be a cause for debate, because of it's functional capabilities and scientific knowledge that is necessary to make even the simplest and most functional pieces. But creativity has a major role in it as well and that cannot be discredited in the final piece.  Without going into too much history, debate, or critiques, I want to share some of the very beautiful creations my daughter got the chance to make as part of her senior project needed for graduation this upcoming year.  The snake (in the front above is a zig zag of glass with a curious head)  is what they start with, in the torch class, to get a hang of working with glass. Then the pendant, just above the snake here, where she got to add color.  All work done in this class was done with a torch. The Hot Sh...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Spring has Sprung and the Circle of Life

Image
There is so much to find during Spring. The world comes alive, and we notice things with such color and hope. I have spent the last few weeks completely enjoying the Spring, mostly in the gorgeous flowers that are suddenly everywhere! We also noticed our bushes had some unusual activity lately. And look what we found! We eagerly were anticipating baby birds, peeking occasionally at the nest when Momma wasn't there to view the beautiful blue eggs. The trademark of the Robin eggs. So the weeks went on and the flowers bloomed beautifully, and started the end of their run. We check and check the nest. And one day.... Gone. All 3 gone. No shells to be found anywhere. We were all so sad about this, even though we know such is the circle of life. It is just so special to see, and witness nature's blooming all around, and just as disheartening to see nature's circle that takes away potential life. Hopefully Momma Robin had a chance to build another nest, ...

Celebrating Fall Colors

Image
As I mentioned the other day, something about the fall air is invigorating . I get to experience breathtaking views and beautiful color every day. I am as amazed by it now as I was when I first saw it, when hubby brought me here  to show me our potential new home that October 5 years ago. Perfect motivation for getting out there and enjoying! So get out there. Enjoy. And if you are in the Asheville area, stop by Blue Rage of Asheville for the Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting and Fine Art Exhibition Colors In Time .
