Thursday Thought of the Day ~ Success, Impossible, and Things Are Just Things

Image
I have SO many thoughts going through my head these days! {it is even interrupting my sleep, which is not really common for me usually, but this week it is !} It was hard to pick just one Thought of the Day, I have more than one huge thought plaguing me on a regular basis these days. I am currently going through my year end reports for the taxes, and am realizing what a tough year it has been. Change after change after change. When one thing wasn't working, I tried another, and then another. source: behappy.me As disappointing is was to see on paper just how difficult the year has been, at least I gave it my all and kept trying.  Plus, I have been confronted with a coming year full of other big changes.  A new chapter, I like to think.  {Someday, I  will  write a book, and there  really will  be chapters.} But these changes are daunting , kind of scary, and are making us examine the past 10 years of our lives. At times, it doesn't seem ...

What Running Has Taught Me ~ Success and The Jingle Bell Run 2013

Image
Long overdue, but finally: The Jingle Bell Run 2013 . AND What Running Has Taught Me ~ Finding Success in Every Effort The Jingle Bell Run 2013. Ho-Ho-Ho People have fun dressing up for this race. photo courtesy of  Thoughts of Raige I trained and planned for this race, with huge expectations. Huge for me that is. I wanted to better my time from last year, and not walk at all if I could help it. Mainly, I didn't want to throw up when I was done. I had high hopes for the race - see my big smile? I am in the baseball hat in the middle. photo courtesy of  Thoughts of Raige I succeeded in that last thing, I didn't want to throw up and fall over when I was done. That was it. But at least I felt good at the end. Perhaps not the best race, I was slower than last year. I did have to walk, but really just a little, and yes, it was on those confounded hills. I still couldn't drink the water at the water station, just couldn't catch my breath. (The...

Walking on Wednesday ~ The Space of Your Dreams ~ NaBloPoMo Prompt

Image
My Current  Dream Writing Space photo: Raige Creations Someday, my Actual Writing Space and my Dream Writing Space will be the same. For now, I mostly sit at my dining room table, which is not what's in the first picture here, by the way. That is my kitchen table, with a nice view, plenty of light, more comfortable chairs. My Current Dream Writing Space. My Actual Writing Space is my dining table, and it is basically in the living room (it wouldn't fit in the kitchen). The living room is on the side of the house that doesn't get sunlight, so it is very dark and the lamps don't really help that much. My Actual Writing Space (dining set IS for sale ..... as soon as we can move it out of there.....) photo: Raige Creations It is also where after a couple hours my back starts to hurt, because my  my feet don't touch the floor when sitting on the dining room chairs because I have short legs. This strains my lower back so I can hardly sit, and basically make...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Writing by Hand

Image
My daughter is so sweet and thoughtful. When back to school shopping she insisted on buying me a journal. Out of the blue! She brought me over to the journal section in the book store and asked which one I liked. I thought she was getting one for herself. "Well you have to pick honey, it's up to you" , I said.  She said, "No I want you to pick!"   " Why?" I asked.  "Well, I want to get one for you" , she said.  I was confused. " Uh, why?"   Why did I need a journal???  She said, " For you to write in. You want to start writing, Mom, so this will help you.  It will help you write, you can put quotes in there too, and get your ideas down." I mumble...and say "But I write on the computer" ....and she rolls her eyes. She continues, with a hint of disappointment  "I thought sometimes I could write quotes in there too, and you can bring this with you anywhere, and it's pretty isn't it?"   ...

Walking on Wednesdays ~ Try and Try Again

Image
Here I am, trying again to get back to working out.  To say the least, my workouts have been sporadic. I try, I get out for one walk, then don't again for a week, then two walks with a little running, then nothing.  But I am trying again. Since it is the beginning of a new month, I am trying to keep track, and be more consistent.  Here are my recent workouts. It looks a little scant, there in the line graph. And yes, the previous workout was 2 weeks prior.  But here I am, now with 2 workouts in one week, and now that I am sharing, well if I don't keep at it you all will notice. Plus, today I ran for almost 2 songs, and walked the rest. A little bit more each time.  Whether you like it or not, I am making myself accountable, and will be sharing with you, my new (perhaps unwilling) workout buddies. I will record, share, and hope to make some progress this time. I am trying again. After all, the true failure is not trying.  Plus, seeing ...

Walking on Wednesday - Alterations

Image
I have limited sewing abilities. I have made pillows, sewn buttons on, patched jeans, and can even make a decent tied quilt. But alterations to existing garments are a bit out of my comfort zone. Why did I need to make alterations? My daughter needs a long, white, flowing skirt to complete her costume for the upcoming school musical. Our quest for a long, white, flowing skirt was a difficult one, especially since we procrastinated beginning the search, and it is January. (not exactly white skirt season). And the play is in one week. I managed to find the perfect skirt though. Couldn't believe it! And it was on sale to boot! Only $7! One problem though: It was a size 1XL - She is a size 5.   Out of the selection the store had, this was the smallest size white skirt they had. (They had sizes of the same skirt up to 3XL!)   But since the play is about a week away, we needed to get something, and this one actually had nice applique work on it.  I thought, 'it's a...
