A Lizard, An Old Arnold, and A Cool Ride ~ Weekend Musings

Image
I got this idea in my head. I thought I should try to find one cool thing a day, or write what I am grateful for each day. So I started snapping pictures. Random, things I thought were cool or interesting. Because life has always got interesting things happening if we just take notice. This week, a list of random things that caught my eye. I found a lizard living in a little plastic guy we found on the side of the road. The plastic guy sustained an injury getting blown off the porch rail, but it seems to have worked out because now he is open for business as a Hotel for Lizards . See this little lizard hanging out on the 'arm porch'?  Great for taking in the scenery. Then the lizard just turns around and goes up inside the head when he ready for sleep, or hiding. Lizard Hotel We were visited by this great Old Arnold bird, what they are called here. They are in the cuckoo family of birds , and make the coolest sounds. Perhaps named after an area of the island, or ...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Life is Like......

Image
I have been taking so many pictures these days. And no, not the fun, inspirational ones I usually like to take. I have been taking pictures of things we have to sell. source: zulily.com So lately, the way I am seeing my life is through all the crap we have, that we don't need.   How did we get this far away from living simply?? I don't want to see my life like that. In what way would I describe what life is like? There are so many options.........like monkey bars.... source: MotivateHopeStrength Yes, I am letting go of so much stuff!  So we can move on.  I can't wait to be done with the 'getting rid of stuff' ! It is hard to be letting go of some things. The change is hard, but I am ready to move on already. You could say life is like.......underwear? source: TARTORA Lingerie Ok...you could say that. And yes, I keep talking about moving, and yes we are moving, so you could also say that life is like riding a bicycle.... source: Move...

Birds on a Wire - or Can You Say Something Better About This Photo?

Image
Photo courtesy of Buttercup (my daughter) Raige Creations A photo from many weeks ago. It was a cloudy, rainy day. My daughter and I were going in to check on our booth at the antique mall . She was snapping pictures for an art class project. When we saw this, we were kinda speechless. All I could say was, 'Look at all those tiny birds on the wire!' So original. I could say that I was the one driving, and therefore could not give the attention necessary. But my daughter couldn't think of anything either.   So I leave it to you to caption, comment, say what you think. Give us a new way to look at this photo.  What is YOUR perspective on a photo like this?  Give us a new way to see it.

Music Monday! Jingle Bells

Image
We got the crap scared out of us Saturday night, just as we returned from our family portrait sitting. We had mistakenly made the appointment at the photo place at the mall for the Saturday before Christmas, so our nerves were trying to recover. Note to self, avoid mall the weekend before Christmas! We were were just getting home, still had coats on, standing in the kitchen going through the mail. I had just sent my oldest out with the smelly garbage, and hubby and daughter and I were reading the much awaited acceptance letter from App State. (Yay!) The door was open so we didn't notice the 3 people that appeared in the doorway.  Out of nowhere, they burst into song (very loudly)!  "Dashing through the snow...in a one horse open sleigh..." I jumped, the dog started barking, and they continued singing like nothing was happening. We were trying to figure out what in the heck was going on! All we could do was just stand there, confused, while we tried to deal with ...

NaBloPoMo Day 1 - Finding Views While Waiting For Pizza

Image
Well, it's late on a Friday. I am sitting here watching a movie with my family, stressing about what to write about for the first day of National Blog Posting Month .  Fall Country Road photo courtesy of  Raige Creations "Didn't she just do that?" I hear you asking.  Well, kind of. Well, yes I took part in National Blog Writing Month , where the goal was to write every day in the month of October.  But National Blog Posting Month is the month of November, and I joined a group on Blogher.com . As the day wore on, I felt so uninspired, yet felt the pressure of getting something posted. I realized, not for the first time actually, that I am tired of stressing . Camouflage Tree photo courtesy of  Raige Creations Dinnertime came. Pizza was on the menu (see tired of stressing above, and I DO stress about dinner regularly), but we had to go to the place to order it, and wait for it.  (They don't have to-go menus, and I actually find...

Thursday ~ Clarity Through the Mist

Image
Clarity Through the Mist photo courtesy of Raige Creations This is the beautiful scene as I was running on Monday. The fog was drifting over the water so brilliantly, it was a great distraction from the run. I was on a route that I don't often use, around Lake Louise.  I ended up going farther than usual, mainly because I had to go around the loop more than 3 times to get my usual 3 miles. Then I had to get back to where I head home, so I logged 3.38 miles. Almost all of it a run. The day started out pretty good.  Hard to believe how the day changed , but it is a lesson in enjoyment of the moment , because moments change, moods change, and if I didn't have that good morning I can't even image how truly bad the day would have turned out . I was glad to see this picture today. It reminded me of the beauty right outside my door. It reminded me that I will see clarity at some point, I will find my way. Even if I can't see it exactly, once I get settled after...

Music Monday! Kodachrome

Image
A while back it was one of my goals, along with writing , to take more pictures with a real camera, not my phone. But I find myself not wanting to carry the heavier camera around, and worry about having the card in there. (yes, digital...I can hardly remember the last time we actually used film!)  It was 1973 when Paul Simon sang the pleas: 'Mama don't take my  Kodachrome away' . But alas, his pleas went unheard. Today is a world of digital photos, camera phones, and online storage of our life in pictures. So I carry my phone with me nearly everywhere, and snap pictures when the mood strikes. It is difficult to take them when I am running, which happens to be one of the few times I actually have time to take pictures. But today, it was a more difficult run day, so I walked more. And I took some pictures.  Half-way to full on Fall photo courtesy of Raige Creations Sadly, I was shocked to see these trees. Isn't it early to have the trees changing? Fall Pa...

Today's Run ~ Yes, That Is I Ran The Whole Time!

Wow. I did it. I ran non-stop today. No middle of the trail walk because I was so out of breath, no "I'll just walk for a little bit then run again" . I did my normal walk down the long driveway and up the first hill ~ this is my everyday warm up.  Then I ran. I did not slow to a walk at the road with the hill, I went straight, to the second school.  Then I turned and went down that road, and back up that hill, all at a run .  I dealt with others walking ~ meaning I had to reel LadyJ in and keep her from trying to greet each person as we passed. All at a run . This is not really an easy task when running, as she always seems to try to run right in front of me, tripping me. OR runs behind me tangling us up in the leash.  Then there was the other runner with his dog. He must have the same problems because he quickly got off the sidewalk and into the road so we could run past each other not too close, as both dogs seemed to want to get near each other. This mea...

You were stone white So delicate Lost in the cold Natural Caribbean Brain Coral  Pendant Bell Coral Pendant Something about coconut trees in the snow seemed right about posting this video today. I spent the day listing some new Jewelry by Bridget, and started with the coral and shells ones that she did. Being January, thinking of finding coral and sea shells was a comforting thought.  I miss those weekend trips to the beach, even in January.  This nostalgic and touching song seemed a good fit, and it's a great song. The Cure - Pictures Of you Get More: The Cure - Pictures Of you Conch Tear Pendant West Indian Whelk Shard Pendant Touching the pendants, thinking how the coral was all found by Bridget on her last trip to the Caribbean, and then brought back here and lovingly given a new life as a beautiful piece of jewelry makes me appreciate it even more. Enjoy the pictures.  Enjoy the snow and coconuts.  By the end, I almost believed th...

Music Monday! Pictures of You

Relax with your afternoon cup of tea, enjoy the snow, for those that have been bombarded, and disgregard the poor lipstick application and crazy hair of Robert Smith . A nice relaxing song for this Monday. I love listening to The Cure , so be patient through the beginning, he does eventually start singing.
