Walking on Wednesday ~ now Running on Thursday?

Image
I am starting to think I should rename Walking on Wednesday - I have not been very good at actually posting on Wednesdays. Plus, I am running now for most of the route. So maybe Running on Thursday?  I measured my route last week, before the Jingle Bell run (my first public run!) and found the distance was 2 miles. So this is now my standard workout, and I am concentrating on keeping it as much 'run' as I can. Yesterday (Thursday), I noticed that the run didn't hurt as much as it had the previous 3 days. The 5K run did have it moments of pain, so I treated myself with a day off Sunday. Then on Monday I went for my normal run, or so I thought, but when I actually ran it was not smooth, it was HARD! I ended up walking most of the time. Tuesday, a little better, but still much walking. Wednesday, I ran almost the whole time, but it was not easy. At my turnaround spot in the middle of the run, I gladly walked a wee bit until I could catch my breath. Then I took up to ...

Double Feature Picture Show

Image
For missing Music Monday!, Two for Tuesday!! (what you normally get when I miss Music Monday!), and then Walking on Wednesday sneaking past, I had to do something unusual, entertaining, and quick! So, in honor of our movie night over last weekend, despite the hectic schedule and tons of stuff to do, here is a double feature plus TWO   for you. (for the Two for Tuesday - what you get when I miss Music Monday, plus a bonus of TWO for missing Walking on Wednesday)  We try to maintain movie night in our family, though it is tough. It is one thing we all look forward to as a family.   This particular piece of history we have watched this with the kids ever since they were young, believing that exposure with guidance, and humor mixed in, is the best way to deal with raising curious children. Now that they are older, they love the audience participation aspect and entertainment value of this cult classic. It has great music - the kind that gets stuck in your head. Many s...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Creative Solutions

Image
I have not been one to be very good at creative solutions. It is generally not my strong point. If you think of a solution, I can certainly get it done for you! I can help you, I can encourage, and maybe perhaps add to that idea, but creating one myself, all by myself - not so good at.  Even the solution to this problem. This is not a new problem. Nor are there many solutions to this problem. A paperclip is the common one. Unless you opt for the PROPER solution and go to the eye place and have them properly fix it. But me? Well today I HAD to find a fix and fast. The kids missed the bus, and at 7 a.m. I am not ready for contact lenses. And of course, I DID need to see when I was driving. (I won't tell you about the time in high school when I tested this hypothesis) So I resolved to find a quick fix. Upon investigation, it became clear that the screw hadn't just fallen out, it broke and there was still some left in! UGH. And I had brought ALL the paperclips t...

Walking on Wednesday - I am hardcore! Are you?

Image
I am! I am hardcore! Ok, maybe not to the runners, marathoners, tri-athletes.  But I am hardcore - and so are you if you think about it. For me, it hit me as I was walking in the rain last week. I know I have bragged about walking in the rain before , but that was nothing compared to the rain last week. It had been raining all the night before, all morning, and there were rivers of water running down the street and large puddles everywhere. The rain wasn't a drizzle, it was steadily raining. My clothes, after walking in the rain. But I went for a walk anyways. The old me would have stayed in and missed a day of walking. But the hardcore me got my hoodie and my old walking shoes (didn't want to get my new ones wet and dirty), and headed out to get wet walking. The bottoms of my pants were so wet when I got back, I took my clothes off and left them on the steps. And I couldn't see because my glasses had drops all over them and were fogging up. ( Yes, I took the pi...

Walking on Wednesday - Change of Scenery ~ Change of Pace

Image
Do you ever feel like you need a change of scenery, a change of pace?   Do you ever just want to avoid the computer for days? Do you ever find it so difficult to get motivated to create that you take drastic measures to change your routine, change everything, to start over?  Monday, I just couldn't find music that inspired me. I couldn't find the inspiration to write, I couldn't create, I didn't even want to do my normal computer routine.   I knew I needed to change my routine.  So today's Walking on Wednesday is about changing things up a bit.   I thought changing up the music, and posting today, would be a good way to start today. Find new music - here is a different music experience, Symphonic Pink Floyd. Numb yourself to your normal sounds, routines, experiences. Find new sights. by CubaGallery on Flickr Find new sounds. by eddie.welker on Flickr Find new routines. by JadeTang on Flickr So I began this week avoiding the computer, crea...

Walking on Wednesday - Falling hurts sometimes...

Image
We walk every day. We never think about walking, we just do it. And sometimes we get so used to doing it we don't pay full attention to what we are walking on .  I noticed a few years ago my balance wasn't what it used to be, so I really try to pay attention to what I am walking on. But yesterday, while on my walk, I stopped paying attention right about the time I really needed to be paying attention. No , I didn't fall on the grate over a section of our driveway. Our dog has even smartened up and goes around it, but cant fit where she goes so I do walk very carefully. No , I did not fall down after making it to the top of this hill, the first one I come across. I am out of breath, but am careful that I keep going and catch my breath while continuing to walk. No , I did not fall down laughing at the top of this little hill, at the lovely family of pink flamingo's.   I actually look forward to seeing them because they always make me smile . No , I did not fal...

Walking on Wednesday - Rainy Day Recipe Day! Apple Bread

Image
Due to the frequency of rain in the area lately, this week's Walking on Wednesday is a wonderful rainy day activity. Baking!  Often, on rainy days, I find myself in the kitchen. I don't have the itchy 'gotta be outside' feeling, and the hubby and kids are always hungry it seems, so baking and cooking are a natural rainy day activity.   On a recent rainy day, I was on a bread making kick. My hubby cannot eat dairy - no butter, milk, cheese. But he loves sweet breads. I searched high and low for a banana bread recipe with no milk or butter. Not easy to find, but I did find one. But how much banana bread can one eat before one gets so tired of banana bread they don't want to see another banana? Not much actually.... So, some experimenting and desire to use up some ingredients, I came up with a recipe for Apple Bread that uses no butter or milk. It is a heavy bread, nice and moist, just the way hubby likes it.   Flour, baking powder, salt mixture Ingredients:...

Walking on Wednesday ~ The Paths We Take

Image
A difficult path, not taken this day from Raige Creations T his is not the first time I have thought about paths , the paths we take , the path of living , and choosing paths . It is not the first time a path has intrigued me . Heck, Walking on Wednesday is all about walking on paths.  This path above is one, on this particular day, I chose NOT to take. We have before. But this day I was not up for it. It just seemed too tough.  And that is okay. Some days we just cannot walk down a difficult path.  I was going through some stresses at work, which I cannot go in to details about. I can only say some days as a manager are frustratingly tough. It will work itself out, but dang the emotions of the past couple day took me down some ugly paths.  And next time, I WILL go down the path pictured above, as it leads to somewhere totally different, and some days you just need to mix it up a bit.  But this day, the same old path was just fine. There was comfort the...

Walking on Wednesday - I got my new shoes on

Well, not yet, but first thing tomorrow I sure will. I finally decided to invest in a proper new pair of walking shoes. Well, technically they are sneakers, but hubby hates that word, so just call them my walking shoes. It had been at least 3 years since I bought new sneakers, errr walking shoes. I noticed the treads on mine were a bit worn, well, nearly smooth actually, and thought I should really get some new ones because maybe that is why my knee has been hurting me.  So off I went this afternoon to the mall with my daughter for some new walking shoes. Is it bad I bought them the first store I went in, the first pair I tried on? Well, that is how much I love these shoes.  I put them on and said, " Wha??? This is how proper walking shoes should feel?" MAN what I was missing. So tomorrow morning, I will wake up, have my coffee and check my emails, slip on my new walking shoes and new sweatpants, and probably have the best walk I have had since we moved here. (I ha...

Walking on Wednesday - Rain or Shine? - Not Me in the Rain Today!

Image
I was feeling uninspired this morning for Walking on Wednesday. Just didn't know what to write about. Often in these circumstances, the thing that gets me out of the rut is actually a nice walk. It gets the blood flowing, leaves me with only myself, and the dog, and whatever squirrel we come across with the occasional dog barking. So today I got on my walking clothes, got the leash and poop bag, put on my walking shoes. I was ready for a nice mind clearing walk. I go out side, chat a minute with hubby who is having his morning smoke with coffee outside, and what happens? It starts to rain. I think, "oh, just sprinkling, maybe I could get a quick walk in". Before I finish this thought, it begins to pour. So there I am, ready to walk, the dog just as excited as ever because she loves walks. And I say "No walk today, back inside Lady J". She pauses, looks confused, and finally gets it as I head inside. Great, no walk today. I did not feel like getting wet,...

Walking on Wednesday ~ What Day Is It?

Image
Source: iwastesomuchtime.com via Karen on Pinterest What day is it? Lately, whatever day I think it is changes throughout the day. I am not sure what day of the week it is most of the time, and date of the month? Forget it.  Yesterday, I greeted the chimney repair guys with -  "OH is it the 18th already?"   - suddenly remembering they set the repair date weeks ago, but wait, weren't they coming the 19th? Oh yes, it was the 19th! Then later in the afternoon, while discussing an item that was going to be shipped on Friday that we had to package, I said,  "but it is going to be picked up tomorrow!"   Well, it was Thursday, right? NO, it was Wednesday . Oh yes, that is why I had blogger open with a blank page waiting for Walking on Wednesday .  I think Pooh is right.  - Today is my favorite day -  Even if I don't know what day it is. Mostly, it doesn't matter the name of the day, or the number of the day. It ma...

Walking on Wednesdays - Clearing my head and starting fresh

Image
With the first of the Walking on Wednesday series  came a revelation.  Walking can clear the mind,  and allow for a fresh start. It started out as a day with potential -  so much on the to-do list.  Listing new flowered Toekini's , making new ones,  finishing my inventory count  (so much inventory ~ I have so much to create!!) .  Yellow Rose Toekini's ~ sold within 1 hour of listing! Then, entering  shipping receipts from January until now,  entering sales into a new spreadsheet.  I am now an editor for zibbeter.com,  need to write an article for IndieSmiles.com,  on and on. This was starting to stress me .  Then I got notice the Toekini's I listed just sold! Now to package, print shipping label, go to Post Office. My list grew and grew .  Quickly, it became clear  that I was becoming overwhelmed.  And, for me,  too much to do means nothing gets done .  So I abandoned everything,  ...
