Walking on Wednesday ~ Duct Tape

Image
Duct Tape. It should be on the list of greatest inventions. Why is it so great? Because you can use it for a seemingly inexhaustible variety of things.  I am not the first to mention such, nor will I be the last. I also cannot possibly find bunches of great stuff made out of or done with duct tape. Just do your own search and you will be amazed at the genius uses of the stuff.  No, today I will simply share a couple 'light bulb' moments in our house that involve duct tape. Very cool duct tape I should add. We each got one roll for Christmas from my ingenious sister, who wrote 'You can always use duct tape' on each roll. Got a binder that has seen better days? Duct Tape! Did those plastic thingy's at the end of your shoe laces come off? Duct Tape! Just a couple examples. I didn't get the chance to take a picture of my duct tape moment - using it as a guide on my sewing machine to mark where the wide bit fabric I had to sew had to line up.  I am sur...

Walking on Wednesday ~ now Running on Thursday?

Image
I am starting to think I should rename Walking on Wednesday - I have not been very good at actually posting on Wednesdays. Plus, I am running now for most of the route. So maybe Running on Thursday?  I measured my route last week, before the Jingle Bell run (my first public run!) and found the distance was 2 miles. So this is now my standard workout, and I am concentrating on keeping it as much 'run' as I can. Yesterday (Thursday), I noticed that the run didn't hurt as much as it had the previous 3 days. The 5K run did have it moments of pain, so I treated myself with a day off Sunday. Then on Monday I went for my normal run, or so I thought, but when I actually ran it was not smooth, it was HARD! I ended up walking most of the time. Tuesday, a little better, but still much walking. Wednesday, I ran almost the whole time, but it was not easy. At my turnaround spot in the middle of the run, I gladly walked a wee bit until I could catch my breath. Then I took up to ...

Jingle Bells ~ the Jingle Bell Run

Image
Well I did it. I ran in my first public race - for a good cause. The Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell 5K Run . When I heard of this 5K run, I thought 'that really isn't much further than my usual route' so I thought this was quite do-able. I wouldn't say I have been working up to this, in fact it was a spur of the moment decision to enter. I never really thought of running with a huge group of people with bells on my shoes.  I only discovered a few days before the exact distance I had been running, well and walking mixed in. It was right at 2 miles. A 5K is 3.14 miles. I was nervous - would that extra mile really do me in? Just one more mile really, not bad, right?  A very festive walker! My 'festive' feet,  complete with bells and number. My Festive Ears So I joined, and day of race got my Christmas Spirit going. I wasn't the only one - in fact I was dressed rather conservatively. Just my festive feet and Santa Hat. Oh yes, and...

Music Monday! I Got My New Shoes On

Image
Now you are probably thinking... Is she STILL going on about her new walking shoes ?  Oh brother! And yes, I still am!  But unless you went from these: Notice the heel tread completely worn off on one shoe,  the missing label in the center, and the yellow worn off the front section.   To these: Brand spankin' new, GEL, pink and black, dressy blingy going out to party, (as hubby called them when he saw them) awesome walking shoes!   Unless you made a transition like this, well you just can't understand.  Every day since I got these walking shoes, this song has been in my head when I slip into these and go for my walk. I am humming it while I am walking on cushions, there is a hop to my step, and suddenly everything is right ! So today I am featuring this song to celebrate, and partly to get it the heck out of my head.  Because frankly I am a little sick of it.  I found if a song is stuck in my head, and I feature it here on Mus...

Walking on Wednesday - I got my new shoes on

Well, not yet, but first thing tomorrow I sure will. I finally decided to invest in a proper new pair of walking shoes. Well, technically they are sneakers, but hubby hates that word, so just call them my walking shoes. It had been at least 3 years since I bought new sneakers, errr walking shoes. I noticed the treads on mine were a bit worn, well, nearly smooth actually, and thought I should really get some new ones because maybe that is why my knee has been hurting me.  So off I went this afternoon to the mall with my daughter for some new walking shoes. Is it bad I bought them the first store I went in, the first pair I tried on? Well, that is how much I love these shoes.  I put them on and said, " Wha??? This is how proper walking shoes should feel?" MAN what I was missing. So tomorrow morning, I will wake up, have my coffee and check my emails, slip on my new walking shoes and new sweatpants, and probably have the best walk I have had since we moved here. (I ha...
