Music Monday! Feelin' Groovy

Image
I wish I was.... This is such a peppy tune, I hope it makes your Monday feel less terrible. I need all the help I can get to feel groovy. This cold ... And that is all I am going to say about that. Instead of more complaining , I will wish you all the joy you can find in chatting with a lampost and kicking down the cobble stones. After all, complaining don't do no good. Happy Monday!

Yep, It's Fall ~ I Have A Cold

Image
It used to be the norm. Change of season = Onset of the Common Cold . But now that my kids are older, well not even kids anymore, we don't get sick regularly anymore. I love this aspect of children growing older, by the way. click for source Used to be me and the boys got strep throat ever few months when they were little. They were prone to it and without fail every time they got it, I got it. Hubby and daughter didn't seem to be affected, but me and the boys - every damn time. And the colds, we got those every other month! Kids in school = Colds every other month. And I don't even want to tell the story of that stomach flu they brought home from school. Let's not go there. (Besides that it hit every one of us 5 days  before Christmas the one year that I was hosting a huge, like 20 people over, family Christmas. That goes in the books as THE WORST .) As they kids grew and went off to college, we noticed seasonal colds, flus, sore throats, etc virtually wer...

Music Monday! You Get What You Give

Image
It's been a while. I keep wanting to get a Music Monday done. I keep picking songs, even have a Two for Tuesday picked. But when it came to writing, I was at a loss. Nothing to give. Yes, I have written about having nothing to write about. A f ew times , and then some more . It is every writers problem, at one time or another. So I will save those songs when I feel the reason I picked them in the first place. But this song I heard, and I just felt like writing. I was avoiding the Debate last Wednesday, actually. Hubby wanted to 'witness history' or something like that. Me? Nope. I honestly have such a strong dislike for Trump, that listening to him at all gets me in such an annoyed and angry state it takes me a long time to recover from. I haven't uttered much about the election or the candidates for this reason. It is best for me to just put headphones on and listen to some good music and stay in my happy place. Anyway, to drown out the blathering on TV, I put ...

Music Monday! Rock You Like A Hurricane

Image
First, let me apologize. I am sorry for subjecting you to The Scorpions . They are far from a band I like, but after this weekend, and until Hurricane Matthew has inched it's way out of the Caribbean, hurricanes have been in the center of our daily activies. What other song could I pick?? I moved to the Caribbean back in 1993. Being from Western New York, I was not familiar with hurricane tracking. Snow storm tracking, yes, hurricanes, no. But over the years, it became a part of daily life during hurricance season. In June, we get the little newpaper insert that has a tracking map, the list of supplies you should have on hand at any given moment, and with each Tropical update you either add the new tropical depression to what is on your radar or you sit and wait until the next one.  There were many times we prepped for whatever storm might pass close by. Got the supplies, moved our 'important' things where we thought safest from wind and water, hunckered down and wat...

Well, Maybe I Am NOT A Good Patient

Image
I so thought I would feel better this morning. I was so wrong. The alarm went off at 6am (I forgot to turn off the alarm after we got the call that school was cancelled for today ) and I felt like my head was about to explode. I felt completely terrible! Thank goodness I could turn it off and try to get more sleep. I grabbed the end of the toilet paper roll ( we are out of tissues .....) from the floor and began the cough, wipe nose, cough, blow nose sequence, all the while cursing the world. Two hours later, I woke up again feeling slightly better, but only better enough to get to the kitchen, start the coffee and take some medicine.  The coffee was good, and the medicine seemed to be helping because I managed to check all my emails and finish a feature blog and do some other promoting. I even managed to sweep the kitchen, tend to the birds, and take the meat out of the freezer for dinner. BUT, with each passing minute, I felt worse, and it seems grumpier and grumpi...

Walking on Wednesday ~ Helping or Hurting?

Image
These thoughts occurred to me today: I cannot help me to the detriment of you and I cannot help you to the detriment of me It also occurred to me I am guilty of both. This is a fine line we all walk - helping others and helping ourselves. It is an ever shifting line, and often we get all tangled up in that line.  It came to my attention that my walks and runs, ever increasing in length and exertion, have taken a small toll on the dog. She seems always starving when it's dinner time. I know, she is a dog and always wants what we are having, but lately her demeanor is urgent. Her vibes are - 'I am SO hungry ... I WANT WHAT YOU ARE MAKING'. So much so I am tripping over her as I prepare dinner!  Also, she no longer pulls me on our walks, well unless a squirrel runs in our path. She walks right beside me, even lags sometimes. That is until we make the turn around to come home, then she is out front again. And today, she looked downright miserable by the time...

Walking on Wednesday ~ My Sudden Insomniac Ways

Image
I am much too old to stay up until 2:30 am and get up at 6:00 am. But that is just what I did Monday night. Why? Probably one of the most common reasons people cannot sleep. Stress. I had tried to relax after working my 6th day in a row, avoided turning on my computer when I got home. I just watched the boob tube until my brain finally quieted down and I dozed off on the couch. But then ~ midnight rolled around and on my way to bed from the couch it hit me! I HAD SO MUCH TO DO!! Thus my brain and body said - NO SLEEP FOR YOU . I mindlessly did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, the tried to find my brain and write all of my 'to-do's on the message board. Then I felt compelled to turn on my computer, and I printed off the past 4 months of bank statements and proofed some graphics and worked on my blog.   Finally, I forced myself to bed at 2:30 am.  The alarm going off at 6:00 am hurt. But I got up and did the normal morning rituals, except in a slight dream like state. B...

Walking on Wednesday - Cleaning Instead of Walking - Not My Idea of a Good Time

Image
I do not enjoy cleaning. (I know I am not alone here, right?) I find it gets in the way of accomplishing other, more enjoyable and just as important things. You know, like paying bills! I read all the time tips and suggestions for quick cleaning - but nothing changes the fact that I just do not like cleaning. I find it utterly frustrating that you spend so much time and energy on making your space beautifully clean and tidy, turn around and BAM , it is dirty again almost instantly. Why am I complaining today? Because I am sitting here listening to the pitter-patter of rain hitting the windows and roof as it pours down outside. And I am really not in the mood for getting cold and wet. So, I turn to my messy, dirty house. Is it fate's funny way of telling me I am a terrible housekeeper, that I just listed Maidcraft, A Guide to the Art of Housekeeping last night, and today the weather is keeping me inside looking at the hairballs and dust and piles of papers, yarn, and STUFF...

Music Monday! 12 Days of Christmas

Image
Hoping to get in to the Christmas Spirit, but finding it difficult this year, I tried to listen to that radio station that plays only Christmas music from Thanksgiving to Christmas. (they started before Thanksgiving this year! UGH!) I made it through one song.   I start getting into Christmas, then get overwhelmed, sidetracked, stresses, confused.   Kind of like this song! Finding gifts for teens, and hubby, is a bigger challenge this year with our tight budget, and no one really wanting or needing anything.  What do you give then? Still searching for answers to that.  And then the in-laws will be here too. They really don't need anything, they are now living in an RV (no room for anything), and will probably get mad at us for spending our money on them - you know how parents are. So my 12 days of Christmas are feeling a lot like the muddled, all over the place, 12 Days from Straight No Chaser . Maybe getting the tree will help me focus, or at least ...

I am Pooped. So please let me complain.

I had a great post nearly ready for today.  I DID! I thought of it late, to be sure, but got the idea, took photos and everything. Then, had to run son to work, pick up a fixed old computer from the Geeks , drop daughter off at friends, fold laundry, replant a plant (part of planned blog), get dog beds from the line outside (thank goodness they are dry). This is after cleaning kitchen, bathing dog, spraying flea medicine on her (instant itchy nose), shaved the cat best I could with hair clippers (she has long hair and also needed flea spray, and I WASN'T gonna try to get that spray through all that hair! and she absolutely HATES water to a water bath is completely out, I do  not feel like having cat claws stuck in my arm, thank you very much!), then sprayed the cat with flea stuff, cleaned the floor where cat was shaved (want to cut nose off my face now it itches to bad!!), then showered. Oh, and insert 'did lots of laundry' in there somewhere.  So after...
