Celebrating Fall Colors

Image
As I mentioned the other day, something about the fall air is invigorating . I get to experience breathtaking views and beautiful color every day. I am as amazed by it now as I was when I first saw it, when hubby brought me here  to show me our potential new home that October 5 years ago. Perfect motivation for getting out there and enjoying! So get out there. Enjoy. And if you are in the Asheville area, stop by Blue Rage of Asheville for the Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting and Fine Art Exhibition Colors In Time .

Wish List Wednesday

Image
There are 4 weeks until Thanksgiving and 8 weeks until Christmas. We are officially starting the holiday season, and thinking, or stressing, about what gifts to get for Mom, Dad, kids, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. If we are also working full time, running our own small businesses, planning to entertain, or some other time consuming task, shopping can end up on the bottom of the list of things to do. Warm Gingerbread Cookie Wishes by inkandscissors Therefore, I am happy to bring you Wish List Wednesday , a new weekly series running each Wednesday for 8 weeks, from now until those few days before Christmas, when stress is at its peak. It will assist you in your search for great gift ideas, and even menu suggestions or tips for getting ready for the holidays. And to make it even easier, each week will focus on an item that can be purchased right form the comfort of your computer, no rushing out to the store to wait in line. You can create your s...

Music Monday! Artwork by Laura Barbosa with music by Habib Koité and Bamada

For more info about Laura and her artwork, visit The Art of Laura Barbosa . I like her statement: Living to Paint, Painting to Live. Enjoy!

Music Monday! Every Painting in the MoMa.

Love Art? Don't have time to go to a Gallery? Try this - a 2 minute and 5 second tour through every painting on display from the painting galleries in the MoMA on April 10, 2010. (from chrspck on YouTube - www.chrspck.com )   It is set to the piano solo "Mad Rush," by Philip Glass , which is a nice compliment to the eclectic mix of paintings you will see. It goes rather quickly, but gives a nice taste of everything there is, and you can pause whenever you like to fully enjoy the pieces you like.  This was mentioned in the latest Real Simple Magazine (my favorite), and once I checked it out, I knew my Music Monday followers would really appreciate this. It doesn't replace the experience of actually visiting the MoMA , someday I hope to know what that feels like, but it sure does bring a taste of the wonderful things on display, and brings a yearning to visit a local art museum. That is something we should all do this summer to get out of the heat (100 degrees i...

Colorblind - A Different Perspective

Image
Being a hereditary carrier of the recessive 'colorblind' genes, I have first hand experience seeing my sons growing up with being Red/Green Color Deficient, often referred to as 'colorblind'. All of us 'color-seers' could not relate to or understand why, when asked if one wanted to put on a green shirt (St. Patty's Day), he put on a tan one insisting it was green, and finally settled on saying "it's close enough". That is, unless others searched as long and hard as my husband did years ago to find a very usefull Photoshop plug-in from VISCHECK for transforming pictures into how 'colorblind' individuals see the world, and everything in it. A search engine will bring up web-site design links that allow you to transform your site (generally for a fee) as well, but the plug-in is free, can be used on any image, and has been an invaluable tool we have utilized for years. (NOTE: Photoshop plug-in hyperlink will take you to a download page ...

Artwork seen

Image
A quick note for those who have asked. The artwork hanging in my dining room where I was working on my first quilt, as seen in my Quilt Story , is a custom remarque by Mackenzie Thorpe of Walking the Fish done for my husband after he and Mackenzie, and their entourage, had a 'night out on the town' in Manhatten following an opening reception. It actually says 'Love' all over it, which is all but invisible untill you turn on a blacklight. Not only is Mackenzie a great guy, we love is work. A simple search will pull up tons of info on Mackenzie. Probably for the best selection, check out Peabody Fine Art Gallery . They are a reputable gallery my husband has had experience in dealing with ,and great to work with.
