Memorial Music Monday - Green Day 21 Guns

I know not exactly a song for soldiers,
but I like this song, and I like the line,
"lay down your arms, give up the fight..."
Not always possible,
or practical,
but sometimes, it is something we should do.

Have a Great Memorial Day!
And a HUGE Thank you to all our brave soldiers
who serve, and have served, to keep us all safe.

Trying Something New: Tell me what you want, and I'll put it on sale just for you!

It has been such a beautiful week here, and I have been working for "The Man" every morning.  So after work, the 'lazy summer days' feeling has overcome me.  These things have led to a complete lack of motivation, and has sapped every bit of Raige Creations' creativity and productiviy right out of me.

It has even found it's way into my marketing efforts. I am trying to prepare for this weekends' Saturday Blog Shoppers Sale, and I am fresh out of ideas.

So I am asking YOU, my fans and followers, for this week's inspiration.

What is it that you would like out of my store?

Tell me what you want, and I will put it on sale for you this whole weekend.

I will announce the sale terms for the Sale on Saturday morning, so get your wish list to me by Friday night, or even EARLY Saturday morning, okay? You can leave it in a comment here, or you can leave it on my Facebook Page

I will even take custom orders, if you want something that is not already created, and you have seen in my stores, I will make it for you and give you a discounted price.

(like the Hemp Basket or the His and Hers Thongs for instance)

Or - if you would like something else, I can make it for you, and give you a discounted price too.  So, let me know what you would like, and voila, it will be on sale!

Please make you desires known, and I will be happy to respond (and paraphrase), as Westley would say (in that great movie The Princess Bride) after Buttercup's requests;

"As you wish"
but at a great price

Music Monday! I would walk 500 miles......and get blisters after only 33 miles....

In honor of my daughter'a recent adventure as part of the 8th graders who just finished
'FMS /BMS Quest 2010'.
Her school offers a great hiking and camping experience for 8th graders every year called 'Quest'. A group of wonderful teachers and community members organize about 60-70 kids and teach them how to survive safely in the wilderness (pack a backpack, cook, clean up, set up tents, use the "bathroom" or "take the poop position" as they affectionately called it, take care of blisters, hold hands while crossing streams with strong currents, etc). They go on 3 hikes, a one-day, a two-day, and a 4-day. Yes, that is right, 4 days, hiking over 30 miles, over 3 nights out in the woods with 60 kids and an adult and/or junior leader for every 2 to 3 kids.  This year Fredonia asked another nearby school, Brocton Middle School, if they would like to join the Quest team, and so this was the first year kids from both schools took part.  The two-day hike was cut way short to a few hours of cooking and activities due to extremely high winds and thunderstorms, so the 4-day hike was the first time they would be out overnight.  Sounds crazy, yes.  But they all have a wonderful time! Even the adults admit they had a great time and that it was a great bunch of kids.

In fact, the lead organizer admitted this year's group was the most motivated he has had in 9 years - they WANTED to be up at 5:30am so they could make it to Arkwright Falls (travelling along the Eastside Overland Trail).   Yes, it is true - they asked to be up at 5:30AM to see this local attraction.  It had been 9 years since the last Quest group went to Arkwright Falls. (They have been organizing Quest for over 20 years!)  They all had great things to say about the kids, even if it was things like: "they couldn't cook very well, but you could hardly taste the bugs and grass"; or as a first time juniour leader said "I really learned patience this trip dealing with these guys".  His group was always the last group to start cooking breakfast after several attempts of the junior leader to wake them up and get them moving, and that included trying to wake the adult in charge of the group.  (The juniour leaders are high school students who have been on Quest in previous years.)

After the 4 days hiking,my daughter came home with blisters all over her poor swollen feet, her muscles aching, her voice a bit horse.  But she said it was so worth it.  I think it is an experience she won't soon forget, and will cherish forever.  A wonderful introduction of the outdoors, a first hand experience of the wonders of nature and Chautauqua County, NY, and priceless knowledge she can use throughout her life.

To honor her great accomplishment, here are The Proclaimers with (I'm gonna Be) 500 Miles, a song she loves thanks to Benny & June.  Even though they only walked 33 miles over the 4 days, to me it would have felt like 500 miles.

'Till next week, let's put our feet up, hum this song (it gets stuck in your head), and appreciate that most of us won't have to walk that far. :)
Feel free to request a song right here in the comment section for Music Mondays - I would love to know what you would love to hear!

Saturday Sale - Polka Dot Teddy

Happy Weekend everyone! I am trying to be enthusiastic, but feeling a bit uninspired. I had a long week, and feel like I am in a bit of creative slump. I have ideas in my head, but something gets lost between head and hand.  Perhaps you all have had moments, weeks, or even months like this?

I know a good hug from someone (something) sure does help, so that is why I am giving up my Polka Dot Teddy this week for someone who needs a great hug, for someone who needs that unconditional support from a cuddly buddy. I still have his cousin, Teddy Dog (still needing that tail sewn on!) so I won't be left alone, but thought one of my fellow creative readers could use a smile.
You can get this Polka Dot Teddy this weekend for only $10.00!! (he is in my shop for $18, so that is more than 40% off!!)  He is soft, he is colorful, he has the best blue eyes, and is very lovable.  For you, your kids, your grandkids, neices, nephews, etc. Anyone who would love a great hug and who loves being cheered up by polka dots.

Please send me a message with the 'secret code' PDT (Polka Dot Teddy) and you can get him for only $10, until Sunday night. (until midnight, May 23rd) I will adjust the price prior to your purchase, or give a paypal refund, whichever works better for you.

Here's to all our creative juices flowing! I am going to go get a hug from PD Teddy before he is shipped off to one lucky person this weekend.

Have a great weekend all, and don't forget to leave your support comments, and see what other Saturday Blog Shoppers sellers are having great deals this weekend too.

Music Monday! A Request Music Monday with Sympathy

Sometimes, songs are in my head all day, all different ones, and I am humming happily from morning 'till night. Other times, there is nothing but silence, or only to-do lists, or worries about unfinished projects.

Today, that is what my head is filled with - worries about unfinished projects and the promise I made on Facebook of new items this week. So I am taking a request made by my friend, Laci at Zig-Zags Handmade This N' Thats. She LOVEs the Goo Goo Dolls, and wanted me to play Sympathy. It seems fitting today, as I complain about too much to do and so little time, I know most of you can sympathize with that.

It is also interesting to me because every time I hear the Goos (as they are affectionately called these days) I am reminded of the first time I heard of them, and heard them. They are natives to Buffalo area, as am I. So, back in the mid 1980's, when my friend asked me to go to her school's dance where there was live music, I said "Sure, sounds fun!" I had never heard of this band, The Goo Goo Dolls, who were playing that night. So with an open mind, I gave them a chance, and they were, well, not a very good dance band!! They were a new punk band at the time, and had very little experience with live shows. It was a bunch of garbled noise to me, and I left that night saying "That band was awful!".

Fast forward a decade or so, and I hear The Goo Goo Dolls on the radio, and said,"WHAT? WHO? That's not the same band, can't be!" They came a long way from punk rock garage/high school dance playing band.  They had decent music.  There was talk here of  them 'selling out', mainly coming from their hard-core punk fans, but in my humble opinion, it was the best move they could have made.  And they keep going, writing music for movies, playing larger and larger concerts, getting plenty of radio play. They have a new album coming out soon, and are touring right now.

I think of the funny story my brother-in-law told me of when he met Johnny Rzeznik.  They were both staying at a boarding house somewhere in Buffalo, both going through a rough time.  My brother-in-law, older than the young Johnny, was talking to John, and thought he was giving good advice by suggesting he go back to school and get a good job. "Give up that music thing," he said, "you'd be better off getting a stable job."

Thank goodness he didn't listen to that piece of sound advice, right?
Then we wouldn't have Sympathy. In fact, they are playing right now on the radio.

Thank you Laci, for the request, and for bringing back some good memories and stories.  Enjoy!

And if anyone else would like to request a song for a future Request Music Monday, please do!

Thank you Bluejules! I love my bag.

I won! I won!
I won a giveaway from Bluejules!
Now I am not usually a lucky winner, so this completely caught me by surprise when I heard that I won this giveaway on her blog Bluejules Sews. I received this beautiful bag, all the way from Slovenia, where Bluejules home is. I was thrilled when it arrived, and found that it is well made, a great color, a great size, and the inside pocket is perfect.

I will admit, I didn't know anything about Slovenia. I didn't even know exactly where the country was!  I was very curious about where this talented creator, Brigita, was from.   So, as anyone in this day and age would do, I Binged it.

So there it is, in between Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Nestled in beautiful Alpes country, touching the Adriatic Sea, with so much to offer.  Their tourism site tells it all and is absolutely beautiful!

I like the fact that the country seems to be so in touch with nature. Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe, dozens of thermal springs in eastern Slovenia have therapeutic properties, and over a third of the territory of Slovenia is protected.
In Slovenia, you can be at the sea or a ski resort in a matter of hours.  One percent of it's territory is covered by vineyards, and there are some 10,000 kilometres of marked hiking trails laid out across Slovenia.

There are caves that are amazing in the southwestern area of the country, the most popular being Postojna Cave.  The famous Concert Hall in this cave system is known for its exceptional acoustics, has sufficient space for 10,000 people leading symphony orchestras, octets, and a variety of soloists to perform here.
(Lander at the Slovenian Wikipedia project is the copyright holder of this work, and can be seen on Wikipedia)

The more I learned about the area, the more intrigued I was, and I didn't even touch on the history, politics, or castles.  What an interesting place.  I am so glad I had a chance to learn more about it, and learn where the creator of such an excellent bag came from.

Thank you Brigita - for the bag - and the learning experience.
You do such excellent work, I wanted to share some of my favorite things from you shop as well.

Please check out Brigita's shop and blog you will find some well made, creative things that come from a very talented, and friendly creator.

Music Monday! It's just another Manic Monday....

It's just another Manic Music Monday.  I did oversleep today, and it's the first Monday I am back working, so this fits all to well.

So I am running late, it's Monday, it was 30 degrees this morning, and I don't have time for any more. I hope it's all worth it in the end...but is it ever being a slave to the grind? Maybe, someday, I can just keep creating for a living, instead of workin' for "the man".
I can dream...ever fitting here is the quote of the day today:

There is nothing like a dream to create the future.
Victor Hugo

Happy Monday Everyone - Have a great day!

Music Monday! The Thong Song

This is the only appropriate Music Monday song for my newest creations.
Thongs have arrived!

When Raige Creations first opened online, it was suggested that I make intimate items, thongs in particular. I thought, 'thongs, does anyone wear those anymore? I don't know about that...'

But lo and behold, a custom order soon came in, assuring me that a 'His and Hers' set of thongs was desired - if I could make them. So I searched for a pattern the clients would like, had to tweak it a bit for the his version, made 3 'test' thongs, and decided on the final pattern that would give them what they wanted.  And here they are.
His and Hers Thongs - "Scandalous and Devilish".

I made another 'hers' thong, in Ruby Red, that is available for the first lucky sized petit to purchase.
Pictured here is the ladies petit size small (28-30 inch waist)
Ruby Red Flower Thong
Available at my Etsy store or my Zibbet store.  Look in the Intimates section.
